I was looking on ebay on the off-chance that they might have some jewelry with the bdsm emblem, and I found this:
bdsm badges
I've never seen anything like that before. Has anyone else?

I have never seen this symbol before, so am not much of an authority in this regard, but I do find it odd that they feature a graphic instead of an actual photo of the badge.

If the rose does in fact indicate a handshake of some sort, I have personally never seen it. It almost appears to me (because of the popular font and clipart used in the images,) as though it was whipped up in Paintshop Pro or Adobe by the design company, with hopes it would become an offical symbol in order to make sales. I could be wrong, though.

I haven't seen it before. And while I haven't been around to many clubs I have done several searches about BDSM symbols. And after visiting the sellers website I found this:

"As a submissive I was becoming increasingly frustrated by the fact that there was no means by which to recognise other members of the lifestyle whilst out in the vanilla world. I discussed this one evening over a cup of coffee with a Dominant friend of mine, who agreed that it was something that was needed. We batted different ideas around for a while and hence 'sub rosa' designs, was born."

So I think sincerely_helene is right and they are hoping for this symbols to be official.

The one on the right is a "bongcheeba rampant with a bend sinister on a field of gules reversed".

Maybe they didn't know how to work the macro feature of their camera? Seriously, I have no idea.

Rosco, you sound just like my old master. He knew all that heraldry terminology too, due to his military-history interest in the middle ages.

'Bongcheeba' sounds suspiciously like a Marquis-ism.

i'd lean more towards you being right in your opinion ... rather than wrong.
i browse the ads at Ebay fairly frequently, and am quite handy with Paint Shop Pro as well as a handful of other popular graphics programs. When i came across that one a month or so ago .... i thought exactly the same. i'd be suspicious of ANY Ebay ad that shows a self-made computer generated image ... rather than an actual photo of the item offered for sale.

If the community did in fact have a symbol that hokey representing them, I would feel it an embarassment.

While my post was more toward suggesting the possibility of it being an Ebay scam ......

i do agree that the image, and it's primitive design does leave much to be desired. And, i can't even BEGIN to get with the intended expression of symbolisms of their interpretation of the design, the colors, labels etc ect ect.

For me, i'd say to them ..., "Err, .. speak for yourself please.". They can use those symbols in representing themselves, and bare the burden of whatever embarassmenst may or may not ensue. my Master, will be the one to decide His own interpretations, symbols, and definitions of all that might represent Himself and i.

To each their own ...

I'd have to agree....the graphics aren't even that good. Do they really expect to sell an image without proof of product?

And it just seems a little tacky to me. I thought the point of a symbol was that only those who were familiar with the lifestyle would recognize it. This seems to be rather glaringly obvious.

Hahaha. Exactly what I was thinking.

Isn't the real BDSM "symbol" something much more elegant...

*googles*

One minute later...
