Has anyone from lit found themselves lucky enough to become a paid writer, either erotica or other?
:)

I don't get paid to write porn. Though I do get paid to write and do editing things.

Paid writing

Nine BDSM novels on an e-book site so far. I get paid per download. Makes a nice few dollars/pounds/euros/shekels but I haven't given up the day job.

Edited to add I don't write as Un-Registered though. I have a pen name for the novels. I have had technical textbooks published under my real name.

No, not for porn, but then I write porn to relax

My royalties for other things are of course my own business, but yes I do get paid to write, just not porn. But then I haven't explored that avenue of revenue as most porn publishers are notoriously dirty dealers with their authors. And that's not a pun.

Been paid to write things which happen to have sex in them ... so almost.
:D

Mine sends sufficient detail of every sale for it to be really hard work for him to fiddle the figures. On the other hand it is a part of a "respectable" publishing house.

NorthwestRain,

I'll give you 3 yes's.

Yes - I get paid for writing.

Yes - I get paid for writing porn - not well paid - I still need the day job.

Yes - I got the work because I was writing on Lit. In a cyberspace sense, I was in the right place at the right time.

Mostly the magazines I've run into--in the Writer's Market primarily, and I haven't really looked into it that deeply--are looking for shorter pieces than I am incapable of writing. 1000 words is far too short for someone who puts at least that many into an introductory scene. I haven't been published otherwise either, though i do believe I have the skill. Out of curiosity, to those of you who have published for money online, where can i get information of these places, to send my work. If you don't mind my asking?

Yeah, kind of.

One magazine article and one short story, cash in hand.

One short story accepted but not paid yet. Two others due out soon to be paid in comp copies.

One time being suckered by a vanity press when I was young and stupid.

Two independently published novels.

Two (and a third on the way) small-press novels, no advance, royalties nothing to write home about.

So, well, define "paid" ... I think if I looked at all the numbers and factored in the postage I've totted up on sending out one thing after another, I'm still in the red.

But I am having fun!

I have already posted this information on Chicklet's thread, but I think it should be on this one too.

A useful site to visit if you are trying to find a market is the Erotic Reader's Association - they have a section for writers including calls for submissions. http://www.erotica-readers.com/

I do hope this helps some of you.

First, I'd like to say congrats to all the writers whose erotic (or non-erotic) works have been published. :D It's never easy to get paid for doing what you enjoy, but once you get to that point, it's truly a beautiful thing!

As for myself, one of my stories was given the nod by Playgirl magazine. So this spring, I'll finally be a paid writer! (Not well off, yet, Sabledrake; like you, because of postage costs, I'm still in the red myself! :D But I'm still having fun, too! )
