Anyone out there who celebrates both Hanukkah & Christmas?

This is what I get for being born to a dad who is Jewish, and
a mom who was born and raised Catholic but converted to
Judiasm before marrying my dad.

We do have a menorah and a tree.

As for presents, when my sister and I were younger, we
got some on Hanukkah (one per nite) and rest on Christmas.
Nowadays, we just get everything on Christmas day, esp.
if Hanukkah coincides w/ the holiday.

I know this will cause much confusion but I will say this:
I was brought up Jewish, went to Hebrew School, and it
was hard sometimes because I couldn't tell the other kids
that we had both a menorah and a tree at home......

However, while I do realize that Christmas is a religious
holiday for many people, I see Christmas as bringing families
and friends together & being happy, and also thinking of
the "hope" that we all should have for better things in this
crazy world......and the tree.....I see it as a universal symbol
of life.

Anyhow, I open this topic up for discussion........:rose:

Both my parents are Jewish but many of my friends and my S.O. are not so I too celebrate both. I have been to midnite mass on Christmas and it is so peaceful and beautiful. Christmastime has no religious meaning to me but it's a time to spend with people you love. I get my Christmas and Chanukah spirit about the time of the first snow. Already lit my menorah tonight :)

Yay!!!! We'll be lighting the menorah in a little while here!! :)

I have heard midnite mass is a beautiful service.....haven't been
to one yet.......

Oh yes, Christmastime is that time of year to spend w/ people
you care about...I agree with that........and also to spread joy
and hope to those who are less fortunate than you and I.

And love :) Don't forget that!!  I like the way people are so much nicer to each other around Christmastime. I wish we were all like that more throughout the year. :)

I remember after 9/11 last year, overall people were much
much nicer to each other, even strangers........and I just
read the other day that many people are going back
to their pre-9/11 habits of not being as compassionate,
etc. I agree.......love and all the good stuff that goes
with it comes out more during the holiday season, but
that kind of love should be shown and given back
throughout the year, and not just around the holidays.
