Anyone know offhand how long Laurel takes off for the holidays?

I submitted a story late on the 23rd. As of a few minutes ago on the 27th it was still in pending. Usually by now it would have the "new" label telling me that it was on the list for Monday.

I fully expected that nothing was going to happen on the 24th and 25th, possibly the 26th as well as that is Boxing Day a lot of places.

Idle curiosity more than anything else, I was wondering if anyone else had run into this? I figure it will get published when it gets published.

Holiday? What Holiday? Laurel is always here.

It does seem that way. :)

I have been paying a little closer attention to this one because I am a little concerned that she is going to toss it in celeb/fan fic because it is inspired by recent evets and i did not completely rub off the serial numbers.

I have often wondered what time zone Laurel resides in. :)

I've heard people say before that the approval process seems to slow down some this time of year. But if you submitted it on the 23rd, that's barely 4 days, which would be quick any time if year. I'd say give her a week before you start worrying.

My submission sent in just before Christmas took three days to post rather than the usual two, but the one I submitted yesterday is already marked for posting tomorrow. So, I don't really see an vacation time being used.

There are a lot of stories submitted at this time of year, too. My current story was submitted shortly before noon Eastern Time on 12/16 and went live on 12/22. That’s 5.5 days.

Well, that is interesting. Wonder what the hold up is. Like you I usually get approved in two days. and the pending turns to "new" the early evening before the day it posts.

True. I see you write in romance. I have also wondered if category is a factor in that she balances out the number of submissions and or has submissions organized by category as she goes through them.

one rumour is that a bot screens for problematic stories, which she reads carefully, and otherwise, they may go through unread... just a rumour ...

but if true, maybe something triggered the secret algorithm this time?

And if there is a contest running... didn't one just end? I don't know, there are so many now. It will take a little longer. My last took 3 days but there was no contest running.

*Sigh* You guys would bitch about getting hung with a new rope. :D

Same issue

Yeah I posted my first story on 24th and it is still listed as ‘pending’. Is this normal?

10 days and counting

I posted an edit to an existing story on 19 December and am still waiting. I hope it will be published soon, because I'm waiting on that to submit the next chapter.

I did the same, although a little later. Things do seem to be slower, possibly because there are many more stories submitted during this time of COVID, when people seem to have more time on their hands to write smut.

It's at least pushing the limits of normal. After a week, you could send Laurel a polite "has this fallen in the cracks?" note. I've done that a couple of times, and the stories quickly got posted then.

I submitted it on the 24th, and it was approved the next morning (25th). Although weirdly, it was marked with the 27th date, which means it went live with the 26th evening posting. I thought that was a little strange. Most of my stories lately have been 2-3 days tops.

Same here. If it does not post tonight, then I may try to PM Laurel. I am not sure she really responds to those. Given the size of the site, I really would not blame her. Or i may just resubmit it.

Oh it was sent back to me. Paragraphs too big and not separating the speech into paragraphs. Hopefully a quick fix and resubmit. It’s my first story so I keep checking for when it’s going live.

I messaged a few editors but am yet to hear anything back.

Getting editors is difficult. A lot of them are worse than the writers they try to help. The good ones aren't interested in beginning authors that need to be taught the basics.

I studied the top stories from great authors, to begin with. There is a format to be followed. Walls of text or multiple people speaking in the same paragraph don't work. Your story will get flamed over those issues.
