I have not personally tried CraigsList, but I believe that I have seen posts on here with some comments about their experience.

I once had to go on a business trip to Tampa for a couple of nights. I posted my info and pic on craigslist at the time and I got a few emails back. One caught my attention, I answered and it turned out to be a nice looking girl who was just looking to go out on the nights I was there... We ended up chatting, exchanging photos, camming... And when the days of the trip got closer, we exchanged phone numbers and decided to meet... 4 days later we were both exhausted from having spent several hours in my hotel bed doing all the nice and naughty things you can imagine...
I guess craigslist works, but you are better off posting yourself rather than responding to what could possibly be a fake post...

I recently made a connection with another married guy for a mutual JO session. Everything worked out fine, especially since I had the opportunity to suck on him for awhile. I should add that it was my first experience as an adult, so I guess I'll say that I endorse it.

I've met a few girls off of CL but not for anything sexual though. It worked out pretty well.

I usually post up ads for when I'm too lazy to schedule w/ any girls from the GLBT community I already know. If I want to check out an event, I'll just post & go w/ whoever responds. If more than 1 person responds which is often, I just ask if they'd like to check out other events w/ me instead. It works out pretty well.

I've tried Craig's List and had no luck meeting women although I really like Xectxny19X's suggestion about posting for an "events" companion. Butchfemme.com has worked better for me when it comes to meeting women.
For men, I've used CL with success - met my bi male BDSM play partner who is now also a very good friend this way. CL's also worked well for some of my queer male friends who were looking for casual encounters or relationships. Don't know anyone that's successfully used the M4M forum to find a long-term relationship, though have 1 friend who did so posting in the miscellaneous relationships forum.
I have heard that CL in different cities yields different results. In SF, it's pretty safe and "non-creepy."

That is, be skeptical, exchange information first, and plan to meet somewhere public and non-sexual first. Then, get to know the person a little bit (to be safe) and then look at meeting for the second time for more. This is just for a hook-up. You have to be careful.

Although I'm primarily straight, I love playing with women too..but have not tried CL in search of a bi-fem. The key is to read for intelligence. If someone sounds weird or creepy in writing, then you can bet they probably are in real life too.

Craigslist in KC
I was visiting KC yesterday and posted an ad on Craigslist for the first time. I was pleased with the amount of responses I got. The timing didn't work out for me to hook up with this one guy but I will definately try the next time I am in the area.

Three times now. All 3 great experiences. One guy is an ongoing "Buddy" thing. Just be REALLY open about who you want to meet. Expect about 3 emails from people wanting to sneak away from their wives to have sex with you in the back of a van. Sort through that and you'll meet some nice, down to earth people comfortable in their own skin.
