I have to put front brakes on my damn car again. This is the second time I have had to do it in 3 months.

Hmmmm One thing about that hubby, he at least did the brakes.

Why the hell do you need them after only three months though?
You should not drive with one foot on the gas and the other on the brakes. lol
Seriously something is wrong if you need new pads after only a month.

Actually, I just finished washing the grease off. Yuk I hate that part. I have a bad left caliper I think. It was metal to metal on the rotor on the outside of the driver's side. But the pad on the right side was fine.


grrrrrr now I have another added expense I just don't need.

I drive an average of 5000 miles a month. Most of it stop and go. Wears them out fast. This time it is a bad caliper though.

Yea, the last time I did the ones on my truck the left calipre was seized so bad I could not compress it.
You put an awful lot of miles on and if the calipre was not backing off properly it would wear the pad out damn fast.
Is the rotor screwed too?

Wouldn't hurt to have the rotor turned. But, I am not bothering. Next time, I will replace the caliper and have the rotor turned. Should be just in time for Christmas.

I was a mechanic for quite a number of years before I got into electronics and computers - but I have only done a few hundred brake jobs (in a repair shop, oil & lube is the lowest thing on the totem poll, brakes are second up and so on). I was honorman in the Coast Guard Machinery Tech "A" school. I've even got an degree I can show you (Associate of Science in Industrial and Agricultural Equipment Technology).

What are your bona fides?

How about, I have done over a hundred brake jobs myself, put a transmission in my blazer, put a motor in my car when I was 19, I can do the brakes in about 30 minutes and I never went to any stupid school to learn it.

Was the school of necessity. They were a necessity and I was too broke to afford a mechanic, so I bought a book on my car and just learned it as I went along. And not once have any of those extra parts left over when I am done, matter.

Kewl! Nothing is more attractive to me than an independent woman - well maybe if she was bi too.

I didn't really need the AS degree either; when I got out of the CG I thought I wanted the degree because maybe I would get mor ejob offers that way. Halfway through I decided I wanted to go into electronics instead, but had to finish the first degree before going on or the VA would not pay for the other. I actually did a lot better in electronics than mechanics because it was a challenge whereas mechanics was boring because I had BTDT already and I just coasted along.

Seriously, I no longer work on any of my vehicles except my bikes - if I need something fixed I take it to the shop and whip out the plastic. I do check their work and about half the time I find serious mistakes. Brakes are pretty easy to do though - most brake jobs only take about half an hour if no machining is required and the wheels are off.
