Yes, the force 11 storm that only reached force 12 for 10 minutes as it passed Lowestoft. Nowhere in Essex, Kent, Sussex or Surrey was it that strong. I lived in Croydon at the time and saw the pre-closedown forecast just after midnight. My only thought about it when I woke for a nocturnal wander was, "Hmm, it  is a bit breezy tonight."

Just got in from a charity presentation. A really good turnout with visitors from branches in Lancashire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire travelling up to 89 miles each way.

This storm followed exactly the same track as the one in October 1987 until it approached the French coast southwest of the Channel Islands. There the older one suddenly veered northeast, taking everyone by surprise, whilst this one carried on into the Pas de Calais.

It really was a surprise in 1987… I slept through the storm. Still did get of school as the Island was a mess!
