Anyone else think Tony might get whacked on the finale of "The Sopranos"?

I know it might sound ludicrous, but it wouldn't shocked if Tony ends up dead at the end of next weeks episode. I know the arguments against it-- you don't kill the lead character of any show, let alone the most compelling character on TV; the show would lose its focal point; David Chase has said in the past that Tony wasn't going to end up dead or in jail.

But the tag line for the promo of next week's episode is "Take nothing for granted", and I'm not. I've read that James Gandolfini is getting tired of playing Tony, and maybe this could be a factor in it. The show is running out of steam-- you can only whack so many guys, eat so much ziti. Tony has left therapy, and he seems resigned that he's just a "fat gangster from Jersey" with no hope of changing.

"Slate" magazine has a weekly Sopranos discussion among a group of psychologists, and one suggested that, if Tony was killed off, he could appear in dreams or flashbacks, showing us how this man affected the lives of the members of his families. Maybe next season will be abbreviated, maybe four or six episodes to wrap it all up.

Am I outta my fookin' mind here, or what?

I don't think he'll die.

I do however have reservations about Johnny Sack.

I'm not sure where the future is going for Tony. I think he'll end back in therapy with Dr. Melfi.

They'll change from ziti to pasta alfredo, and Carmella is flying to Italy.

I really have no idea what's going on. Good question though.

Here's my theory (which I already stated on the other Sopranos thread):

I don't think Tony will get whacked. He still needs to groom the next leader of the family, and it sure as hell won't be Christopher. Besides the herione addiction, he's just not bright enough. Anthony is a whiny-ass brat, and demonstrates no leadership potential. Tony's already stated that he wants to give his orders only through someone in the family. So who does that leave? Meadow.

Remember when Tony went to Italy to visit the old family? A woman controlled the family business, as her father was too ill to take care of things. After Tony got over her shock that a woman would ever tell men what to do, he seemed to be very impressed with her.

In last night's episode, Tony spoke glowingly of Meadow several times. She's growing up, she's very intelligent, and she's got her father's spunk. I bet Tony sends her to Italy to meet the head woman over there, to reconcile her to her family's heritage and business. She'd make a kick ass Domme.

Mischka, sugah,

that's the best plot I've heard yet.

I'll wait and see if you're right.

I`m with skyblu

Tony goes to Carmine, tells him that Johnny Sac wants him whacked and offers to take care of Sac for him.

Paulie also could be the one getting it in the car.

They should keep that idiot Imperioli (sp) from writing the scripts and let him die in a heroin fog.

This is the most disjointed season yet. Storylines dropped, lost or forgotten. The shows have not flowed well.

Meadow is HOT!

Send fat butted Carmella to Furio.

E-Street band at the Bada-Bing LIVE.

BY THE WAY.....The "STONES" Jan 18 HBO.....IN HDTV...

Tony getting wacked

I have to be honest here, this whole season bites. There just hasn't been any reason to watch it this year. Their best season was the first.

This was the last thread on the last page… I just had to bump it

I think everybody in the cast is going to get run over by a truck.
A very big truck.

The last episode was a let down. The whole season just shifted about in its seat instead of actually getting up and doing something.

But my theory is still viable for next season. :D

You're correct. The show isn't as much fun to watch anymore. As for next year, the theory is viable.

I actually think that every episode this season stood alone beautifully, with the exception of Columbus Day - I thought that one was uninteresting.

The problem is that they didn't tie much up and there were tons of gaps for the viewer to fill in. I think they just went in too many directions this year.

I do think that the individual episodes were some of the best so far though.

Hi Ham. :)

I agree with you, Ruby. If viewed as singular "movies" then Sopranos was interesting this year. But as a series, it just spread itself too thin. And not really in very interesting directions. I really thought Adriana would play a bigger role, considering her story line. Instead, we just watched her complain about Christopher a few times to the fed woman. I know they're building it up for next season, but geez...

Excellent observations, Mischka.

Also worth noting is Tony's respect for the German without a leg (forgot her name) and let's not forget Dr. Melfi and Annabella Sciorra (on fire here!).

Tony digs strong chicks who are tender with him and don't challenge him all of the time (like Carmella does).

Lucky you. :) As you can see there are quite a few people who liked this season's Sopranos. I am most likely in the minority for not thinking much aboout it at all. I quit watching after the third story of the season.
All's well that ends well

You mean Tony digs all chicks....period. I just got hip to the show this year, and I thought it was ok. I am italian and, well I dont particularly like the stereotype. My dad lived thru the whole era where every Italian was suspected of being a crook. I even have some uncles who probably are (no one talks about it) but the jewish kid next door is a crook too....so whateva.
Pass the canolies;)

Oh....Meadow is a fox, so is Adrianna.....well shes not really a fox but she did look so beautiful in her wedding dress and I love her shoes...specially those ones she was walking in when she went to talk to the FBI chick last episode.

Just rambling I am tired......

Killswitch, I'm sure it's not fun seeing a stereotype perpetuated. The way I hear it though, there are still girls in Jersey with big hair, if you know what I mean. ;-)

I agree Mischka. They had that great scene with Adriana throwing up at the FBI office and the whole line dwindled down to her apathetically getting into a car every week for 2 minutes and spilling her guts.

They did a whole lot of set up this year. Tony's eating they really emphasized towards the end. What does that mean? He quits therapy. The separation. The money problems. The only thing that got tied up was poor Ralphie. Ha!

God I'd love to see Dr. Melfi and Tony going at it. Am I sick? ;-)

Ok, onwards and upwards. I need another good show to watch. Anybody know when Six Feet Under starts up? I like to drool over Claire every week.

Well, I am sorry that you lost your favorite character. :rose: It seems to happen to the best of them.
