BlackIce Defender?

It's a program that keeps hackers (crackers) from hacking (cracking) into your system. I have a question and can't call my computer geek friend/teacher. Because he is in prison. :D Oh that sounds bad. Anyway, they don't release him until 10 pm and I need some help over here now. :)

What problem are you having?

Not really a problem, but I just got the BlackIce Defender program so i'm really unaware of some of it's "attacks" that it is showing me.

I'll set this up for you..

I use a Hewlett Packard PC and I got the little alarm from BlackIce warning me of something going on. I clicked on the icon and it showed me this

IP: 209.206.163.75
Node: PAVILION
Group: HEWLETTPACKARD
NetBIOS: PAVILION
MAC: 444553540000
DNS: ppp044.mon.centurytel.net

and this
Date:10/30/01 Time:18:00:33 Attack Type: HTTP Attack Intruder:pavilion Count:1

At the bottom of the window it says: Possible Intrusion-Suspicious Traffic Seen

Now i went to the Advice section and it says

"Summary
Possible Intrusion

Details

An intruder has constructed a data packet in a particular way and is attempting to execute malicious code on the attacked system."

So I blocked them immediatly.

What now?

Do you use Road Runner or DSL? Just curious?

My DSL provider is down, so i'm using the old fashioned dial up modem tonight. Local telephone company (centurytel) is my ISP.

Did this occur tonight? Whilst on dial up? (Just kinda unusual for a hacker to try and do something on that slow of a connection speed is all...........)

You could shut down the system and re-boot to mix up the IP addy..........

Oh i almost forgot.

Also, something is really odd with my computer.

When I go to shut down, it restarts and when i restart it shuts down. (not every time, sometimes i get a "fatal error" message" and have to shut it down with the "no no" power button)

I ran a virus scan and did my Norton Systemworks program. It says I have nothing wrong with my computer. Something is definatly up with it tho. It's acting really odd today.

Chuckus, i have this happen wether or not i'm on DSL or not (alot of hacker activity). I have had BlackIce for a few days and i have logged well over 8000 "attacks" or "port probes".

I get port probes, or used to alot before I got a Cable Router which is my hardware firewall.............I don't think you have alot to be worried about but keep asking maybe someone has more and better info than I. For I am not the knowledge keeper about port probes and attacks........

Just for FYI, I used to use Zone Alarm Pro for a software firewall.

And WHY aren't you? ;)

well let me clarify, For I am not the knowledge keeper about port probes and attacks........ when it comes to computer ports and probing of ports on computers...............though I am a pretty good prober of ports on the female body!!!! LOL :D

the gist of what I was saying........was this............when it comes to having knowledge about port probing on computers I am not the keeper of knowledge on that subject. However when it comes to probing ports on women, I do have knowledge on that subject and use it quite well (or so I am told and believe to be true) :D

So by using the brunette hair dye are you trying to give the impression of artificial intelligence????? LOL :p

Chuckus.. I get it now! Thanks for shining that light on me.. ;)

and no, not Artificial intelligence, it's more like..

The blonde hair dye is seeping in and making me become a true blonde ;) See I can blame the dye for making me an airhead (never mind the fact that i went blonde so I could get away with being dumb and people thinking it was the hair color and not just that I'm dumb)

Jeez, i just confused myself.

Chuckus, thank so much for your attempt at helping me. I think i'll call Shaun and have him come over and spend the night with me and my computer. Hopefully hubby won't mind :D

OK Todd.. ummm i went to these sites and read them

First, they told me nothing about my problem.

And second they were comparing firewalls, i'm not looking to buy. I have what I have, and I was looking for answers.

It's kinda like searching the web for "the best tasting cola". You are going to find a million saying "Coke is the best" a million more saying "Pepsi is the best" a few thousand that say "A & W RootBeer is the best" and a few others that say something else is best.

I don't care what others say about "how good or how bad" something is. I was asking a question about something I have on my computer. I'm sure there is better things out there, but Black Ice is what I have.

Anyway, thanks. Atleast now i have a couple of links to places that are probably being paid to say what they said. *shrugs*

;)

Have a nice night Todd.

Oh yeah.. i'm not getting pissy with you, i was just explaining that your post helped me in no way. :D

Your software is doing its job by keeping hackers from entering your system.

As for your Fatal Errors (Blue Screen of Death) there are dozens of things that could cause it - usually a software conflict.

When was the last time you ran scandisk and defragmented your hard drive?
