Anyone else have this problem?

Often I get ideas for stories, so I write the beginning... everything goes along fine until I get to the "meat" of the story so to speak ;)

I have one story I particulary like that is unfinished as I'm stumped as to how to finish it! In this particular case, I have at least three different avenues that it could follow.

Am I alone in this dilemna?

I find that I only have the problem of finding an ending on occasion. I usually know the general plot of a story before I start actually putting it to document.

I find myself typing merrily along and then I get to the point where they have sex, get bored, and don't finish it. I usually collect about five or sex stories sitting on the brink of sex and then get them all written in one long rush of sexual writing.

You aren't alone. This can happen to me quite alot. I tended not to start writing until I've totally outlined or at least thought out the entire story or plot. I like to make notes and outline my stories beforehand. Then I just write from my notes/outline. I sometimes don't have the time to completely write the story in one sitting, and when I go back, if I don't have my notes/outline, the story tends to just stall.

I have like 1 or 2 stories right now that are just sitting there, halfway finished. Someday, I'll get a brilliant idea and finish them.. but for now, I just let them sit and smolder. :)

KillerMuffin,
LOL! I get stumpted on the sex too. Everytime I write a story where more than two people have sex, I invariably get stuck. Too many people. . . I guess it overloads my brain.

There are really two ways of ending -

The first is to tidily package everything - wrap up all the loose ends - but does this happen in real life unless you conclude by blowing-up the world.

Or you opt for the second technique which leaves things open - the reader feeling slightly disatisfied saying I wish I knew what happened to so-on-so. In reality as so-on-so is not the prime character this would be a new story. This kind of open end needs fine judgement, the reader should feel a sense of dissatisfaction whilst also feeling entertained. Its a matter of judgement. - Analyse the story ends you like.

If you read my story "JULIA'S LAST STAND" you will see an example of a story that had to have a closed ending.
I think that "DIARY OF A FISTING" leaves an open ending - where do they go next?

endings

I can't imagine it's difficult to picl an ending after the whole story is there and the characters are alive, but..
That's lucky - 3 endings to one story. I just let them flow to their own natural conclusion, but my stories tend to be very heavy on the sex scenes and light on the surrounding story.

ending? what ending?

I have to confess that my stories are as tightly developed as my home filing system. ie. zilch

For my serials, I write my stories based on an initial idea and let the characters take control of their destiny. Whatever happens, happens (though as the author, I make sure they don't just sit down and drink ample cups of tea)!.

I find that once I begin writing from the inital idea, my characters take on a life of their own and the plot develops naturally.

As for the ending...well that happens when I decide that enough is enough.

I always like to leave my climaxes (for want of a better word!) open-ended. ie. I tie up all the loose ends but then introduce a plot twist right at the end, that allows for continuation if I ever decide to do a 'sequel' (not that I ever have!). I'd rather leave my readers wanting more, or wanting to know what happens would have happened next. God knows reality doesn't have too many neat endings, so why should my fiction?!

episodes!

Stories that are based on actual events, the end is not a problem.
For the fictional stories the end is only the close of a chapter. Although I like a story that has a relaxed and easy finish when I'm reading or a story that I, the reader can continue.#
As Jon hayworth knows! but you'll have to read his stories and work out for yourselves which story I didn't like the ending of.

I am having that problem at the minute I cannot get any good description of an oral scene. But usually once I get past this point it will flow again.

Punk Fan,

I am no expert, but when I get stuck on a scene, I leave the computer, turn off the music or turn it low. Close my eyes and try to visualise the scene, and keep on until it is running through my head like a film. I run and rerun the film adding a commentary as if putting a voice-over onto a documentary. When some hours later I am satisfied I return to the computer and bang in the whole thing - in a sort of stream of consciousness. At this stage do not worry about grammar, punctuation or spelling - you can do that later.

Hope that helps you.

Thats a good idea, I'm going to leave the room so I wont think about writing it down.

Thanks,
