I have had this email twice from anonymous. Voted a 5 on my stories. (Absolute Terror 1 and 2) :) THanks for that anon. Also said that these stories were exactly what the below link was looking for a competition.

Just wondered what you all thought and if anyone else is getting them. Why the entry fee? :)

Yes i am. Exactly the same as a matter of fact. I clicked the link and it is a contest of some sort that requires you to make a payment to be considered. Sounds scammy to me. Sides my stories are purdy bad so I know he was scamming me. lol.

Hi all,

It is against our policy for people to go through the author list spamming for commercial projects. This "contest" was also posted in the Author Hangout, and there was some discussion about it possibly being a scam there as well.

I will contact whoever is behind this and ask them to stop spamming. This is not the first time we've seen this type of spam, and I'm sure it won't be the last, but we will keep fighting. :)

You should ask Ulyssa about this one, Laurel.

It's not unusual, in fact it's the norm, for contests to charge an entry fee. Either that or the Writer's Market lies.

However, I'm leery about ones that email me anonymously like that.

Hi KM,

I don't doubt that some, if not many, legit publications may ask for some sort of entry fee. Regardless of my personal opinion on that, I agree with you that the problem here is one of unsolicited commercial mailings.

We've had several companies in the past who have sent "feedback" to numerous authors while trying to sell some product or another. The fact is that whoever this is, is trying to get authors to pay them, regardless of what the payment is for.

If someone spammed authors with an ad to buy a dictionary, it would still be inappropriate. The only difference between that and the "Join Now for the Freshest Lolitas!" spammer is that one is a little more targeted.

We have never tried to discourage legitimate publishers from contacting Lit authors. In fact, we've been very supportive of many such collaborations. However, we will not support anyone trying to extract money from authors by sending unsolicited emails.

Now, I just got out my calculator and I was thinking...$12 x 15,000 stories. Let's see, 2, carry the 9, okay, minus 6, 4x3, then square divided by 3...holy shit!! I'm rich!!! :)

Thanks for looking into it Laurel. I got another one today. I thought it might have been a scam expecially since it was anonymous.

I think I've contacted you before. Enjoyed the read! Very good premise. This
is precisely the sort of story series which would work for the contest link
listed at this url:
http://mail.chartermi.net/~harborprograms/

Please check it out.
BTW, I gave your stories a vote of 5!"
