Anybody paying any attention to Alyssa Milano's "sex strike" aimed at Georgia?
One of the more infantile Hollywood lefties out there is actress Alyssa Milano. Don't get me wrong - the girl was pretty hot in 1995's "Embrace of the Vampire," where she played Charlotte, a beautiful young college freshman girl almost seduced by upperclassman Sarah (Charlotte Lewis) - It was hot!
But today, the 47-year old actress has embraced political activism, which included sitting behind Brett Kavanaugh during last summer's Supreme Court confirmation hearings so that she could be seen on camera. Milano embraced the #Me,Too movement as far as Judge Kavanaugh was concerned, because Kavanaugh is pro-life!
But former V.P. & current Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden is PRO-CHOICE - and so when Joe was recently called out for inappropriately touching several different women, Alyssa Milano did a one-eighty-degree turn, putting her #Me,Too credentials aside, and tweeting: "I am proud to call Joe Biden a friend. He has been a leader and a champion on fighting violence against women for many years!" Joe can do whatever he wants!
Anyway, the state of Georgia recently passed a new law restricting abortion, and because Alyssa Milano is all about abortion, she went and announced on Twitter that all Georgia women need to go on a “sex strike” to protest the new abortion legislation! No doubt, the actress believes that her idea is a progressive one. The Georgia abortion law was, after all, passed by Republicans, and therefore any act of protest against them must be liberal and progressive, right?
WRONG!
Although Milano may not realize it, her attempt at progressive activism is actually the OPPOSITE of feminism. Think about it - calling for women to go on a “sex strike” is actually quite sexist! Why? Because it promotes the antiquated narrative that women only engage in sex as a concession (or gift) to men, and not because they enjoy sex for its own sake. That is not feminism - it’s the very definition of patriarchal.
As Katherine Timpf writes in National Review:
"All too often, we women grow up hearing things that suggest it is somehow wrong or bad for us to want sex. I remember a friend in college telling me that her mom had taught her that “it’s the man’s job to want it; it’s the women’s job to say no.” These kind of colloquialisms can stick with a woman for a lifetime, making her feel dirty or wrong for wanting to engage in normal, healthy human behavior. We’ve certainly come a long way in terms of seeing women as being equal to men, but we are unfortunately still in a place where women who enjoy sex a lot are called “sluts,” while the same kind of desires and behaviors are not only accepted, but also celebrated, when we’re talking about men. It’s stupid, it’s unfair, and Milano is not helping."
Alyssa Milano views herself as some kind of left-wing hero, but she completely misses the mark here. And are ANY women out there taking her seriously and withholding sex from their husbands and/or boyfriends to change Georgia's laws? She's making herself appear ridiculous, something that MANY in the Trump-hating left have already been doing now for quite some time now!
