It's the only kind of broadband I can get where I live.

It's still pretty flakey. Give it a couple more years. Of course, by then you'll be able to get cable.

And in most cases, your fastest throughput is pretty close to 56K

I had satelitte and dsl hooked up at the same time..

I already had my dial up.. I wanted to compare each service.

So I used all three (one at a time) for a week each.

I am using dsl.. because dial up and satelitte were useless. I didn't see much of a difference between the two.
