I've only watched the 1st part out of the 3, but I'm totally loving the movie! oOh Elaine Cassidy and the rest of the cast...wonderful...best adaptation of a book I've seen so far. Anyone else watching it as well? :rose:

i watched the 1st part and it was pretty good ... but all the doom and gloom at the end scared me away from watching the other parts

it sounded like it doesn't have a happy ending ... and it wasn't good enough for me to suffer through something that is just going to depress me :)

Fingersmith is fantastic. I don't think it is doom and gloom. I only just read the book and the screen drama is very close to it. The series doesn't go at all in the direction you assume it will. I'd stick with it. I loved the book and am enjoying the series.

HeY...definitely not a gloomy ending. I read the book years ago and the film follows about closely to it. I SWEAR it's not going to depress you. awww...shoot, I can understand that though. I don't like anything that would depress me either like I'm not cuckoo enough on my own. La La La La...<---see? So,Please watch. *smiles*:rose:

Hey...do you have a preference for either the book or the film? I love the book but Elaine Cassidy as Maud in the film is AMAZING. I totally adore Maud b/c of her. Going with the book, I love both Maud and Sue...oOh and that other girl Sue lives with...I can't recall her name but she's so sweet in the book and gets teased by John Vroom a lot. I like her, too. :rose:

i don't mind watching some very depressing things if they're something i'm interested in ... but i'm not really into period dramas

anyway thanks i'll give it another try when it's repeated here

Is that Dainty you mean? It's not so easy to keep track of the people that live at Mrs Sucksby's in the tv thing. I found it easier in the book.

I think I prefer the book. It was such a page turner for me and so exciting. You never knew what would happen next. Although maybe that would be the case with the tv thing if I hadn't read the book. Maud is sweet on the screen.

Did you read or watch Tipping the Velvet? I only ever saw the dvd but I have got the book. I find it very hard to read the book once I've actually seen the film. I'm glad I did it the other way round with Fingersmith.

*WARNING: Major rant session ahead for you. *embarassed look*
Yep, I meant Dainty! Thank you. *smiles* I just adore her in the book. I'm not sure if the film will do justice to her character since it's rolling by really fast. I did watch Tipping the Velvet...the book is extremely better...IMO! I think there's a BIG difference between the novel and the film...so you may be even more thrilled when reading the book. I was a part of this book club...some years ago..when I was coming out and all..first Sarah Waters book was 'Fingersmith', then 'Tipping the Velvet' and then 'Affinity.' 'Affinity' is my least fav. out of the three but lots of people like it as well. So, you should def. give it a go or wait for the film (w/ the rate BBC is going...maybe they'll film Affinity?) to come out first. Both Fingersmith and TTV are my favs., but Fingersmith has always been my fav. storyline. 'Fingersmith' is Sarah Water's last novel for the period, and it seems she gets better and better although...Affinity was disappointing for me (not for everyone, so you may like it). I can't wait for her new novel! :rose:

Do you live in the UK? There was a documentary on BBC4 last week about Sarah Waters. It was cool.

I might try TTV again some time. I've got that many books backed up to read that I rarely go back and read one that I couldn't get into. The BBC drama left little to the imagination anyway ;)

I never normally even like period dramas so it was pretty surprising that I liked either of these.

is fingersmith the show with some demons and i think a crucifixion scene in it? I think i remember seeing something about it on TV - does it come on at around 9 or 10 on mondays? (i dont have a guide in front of me at the moment)

I think maybe you're thinking of something else.

HeY u. *waves hi* No, I'm not from the UK but visited a couple of weeks ago. *smiles* Nice place and people. My friend goes to school there, and I really miss her at times. Not all the time since I'm also enjoying the break of not having to hear her nag. *grins* I didn't say anything.

My fav. series "Bad Girls" are from there. I watched it a long time ago, but my couple on there was Nikki and Helen (I think that was the other woman's name). Have you watched it? You guys have the best storylines going on, darn it. As for the Sarah Waters documentary, I've heard a lot of people talking about it. Now, I've got to check it out! *smiles* take care. :rose:

I love Bad Girls. I have the first three box sets. One arrived when I had the flu once and I think I watched like 16 episodes back to back. I loved the Nikki Helen storyline too. Nikki was soooooo beautiful. She's not really been in anything else. I miss her. I also loved Yvonne Atkins. I only bought the first three because after Nikki and Helen left, I didn't love it as much. It was just alright.

*smiles* Well, I'm glad to know someone likes some of the same shows as I do. oOh yeah, I hope you don't mind. I read through your blog. It's very expressive...honest...and straightforward. I enjoyed reading it. Take care. :rose:

watched most of the first part and got bored. Won't bother with the last one tonight. Didn't care for Tipping the Velvet either

Thanks a lot. Of course I don't mind. It's nice to know someone has read it. :rose:

Part 3 was really quick. The ending was so sweet though. My heart went all buttery just by watching it! I love when Sue remembers back to when Maud had initiated a kiss with her. Elaine Cassidy is so beautiful! I think she stole the show!

We're not getting Fingersmith over here in California from the BBC America network. I called Comcast our cable company and they didn't have any specific info on BBC's programming. I logged on to BBC America's homepage and it was definitely not on it's schedule. I guess there must be different shedules in different parts of the country. (?) Anyway, I've only seen some trailers of the show from it's web home page. Can't wait for it to air over here in this part of the world.

HeY, you're not the only one! I don't get it on my BBC programming either and wouldn't hold my breath to watch the PBS american version (tons of editing!). I have a friend in the UK who tapes and rushes delivery the stuff to me. *embarassed look* 'Fingersmith' is my fav. book and just couldn't wait for the American region DVD to come out. The UK version is out today though I believe. Take care. *smiles* :rose:
