This is just a thread to see if an interest is there, but for a while now, I've been wondering about a Midwestern Lit get together. Feasibility would be an issue and so I'm mainly talking to anyone who either lives close enough to Kansas City or are rich enough that they can travel here, for the event. Kansas City is in the Central Time zone and pretty much in the dead center of the U.S., when looking at Interstate highway maps.
I haven't thought much about where we would meet, or how long the meeting would last. I was thinking it could be a Sunday picnic, or Saturday evening party, or maybe both. I just thought I would put it out there for anybody who wants to think about it. Kansas City is pretty central in the country, so it seems like a fair distance from any coast, if someone wanted to make the trip from very far away.
I'm also aware of a new airline that services Kansas City and was charging just $10 for a one way trip from several states. They don't offer many cost included frills and you pay during the flight for most anything you receive other than your seat assignment. I only saw it on the news once, about a week ago, but if it's really true, that could be beneficial for some.
If someone wants to check that out, the international airport in Kansas City is KCI (Kansas City International). But, the confusing part of that is, when looking for travel destinations, you might need to also look for MCI (Mid-continent International) which is the name used by airlines.
It's a long story, but it seems after the first few months the airport was in service, Kansas City decided to change the name to better reflect where it is. But, the name had already been pretty much chiseled in stone as far as the airlines and air traffic controllers were concerned.
It's an amazing airport that is very traveler friendly. If you have ever traveled through KCI, you would remember it. But, it was built before 9-11 and the government has said it is very expensive in a security sense, because it was built with efficient travel in mind, not with security in mind. So, we're concerned our great airport might some day get nasty, for the sake of security. But, for the time, being, it's still a traveler's dream.
But, I digress...
Anyway, I was just wondering if there was much of a desire out there for such a get together of the mid-western kinky folks. Obviously, this could bring you out from under your rugs or other hiding places and be seen as the kinksters you really are. I know other Lit get-togethers have been raving successes and I kind of feel left out, not being able to travel to any of them.
If there is an interest, that's great. If not...that's OK, too. I'm not going to try to force anyone into this, if the interest isn’t there. But, if enough people want to get together, this then, is the thread to talk it over.
I think a date should be far enough in advance so anybody can plan for it, If that means we have to wait until next year, that's fine with me. I'm also open for a winter get together, but that isn't the best time of year to be traveling in the mid-west. We have our share of cold precipitation called ice and snow, and although it can be very pretty, when you have to deal with it in the travel sense, it can be less than fun. Spring, summer or maybe early fall would be the ideal time of year.
Talk if over amongst yourselves and post your recommendations here. And, everybody is invited. Just because it's the Midwestern Lit get together, don't think that our friends in Europe, Canada and other points of the world are not invited. It's a party. Y’all are invited.
