I have tried resizing this using Irfanview but the results always seem to be slightly blurred. I thought that was more a problem for when enlarging images. Is there someone here who can resize this to avatar size for me without it becoming blurred?

Thanks

You can download a free programme called Irfanview. It will allow you to crop and resize pics in a variety of file formats and it's pretty simple to use. Avatar pics here must be 150x150 pixels or smaller and there's a filesize limit too.

Download Irfanview here.

You might have better luck using Gimp. It's also free. :)

In conjunction with resizing the image, it is also a very good idea to "export" the image. Exporting will remove meta-data off of the image which will drastically reduce the file size, which in many cases such as with avitars, is just as important as image dimension. Gimp will likely have this ability, Infranview possibly, I don't know. I can guarantee that Adobe Fireworks can, that is what I use.

Ok...

I downloaded Gimp and opened my imagefile. I managed to crop and resize the image as I wanted to and it told me to export it when I saved. So far, so funky. My only problem now is that shrinking the image has left me with a huge surplus of background that I'm having trouble getting rid of. The 'crop' tool doesn't seem to do it.

I know I'm probably being terribly dense, but which is the right tool for the job?

Thanks xx

How do I resize my pic for avatar? I have not be able to figure it out...Mike
Thanks for any help you can give me...Mike

You can post it here and someone will do it for you, or download the programs mentioned and have a go yourself, or you can do a search for online image re-sizers, there's quite a few around.

Thankyou very much Quoll, that's much better than any of my attempts.

No probs, for such a simple image it was bloody annoying, I ended up increasing the DPI (dots per inch) by about 700 times to stop it looking ragged when it's resized.

Sorry I can't help with The Gimp as I haven't used it, maybe someone else can answer your questions as far as that goes.
