Any one know?

That one's simple enough. Look at the "Most Read" toplist and you'll quickly find that Incest/Taboo gets more reads than any other category by far.

I can add -
Which people are you talking about? There are a couple of catagories the TROLLS love to read and send their spurious comments. There are a couple of catagories that are tough because, even though there are a lot of readers, their expectations will never fit your story.

My advice is just write it and post it where it belongs - but avoid Loving Wives.

For Raw number of reads, Loving Wives and Incest are the heavy hitters. Erotic Couplings, Anal, Mature, First Time, Romance, Illustrated and BDSM all pull in pretty big numbers.

Categories getting fewer reads are: Chain Stories, Erotic Horror, How To, Letters and Transcripts, and Non-Erotic.

I believe the rest fall somewhere in the middle, although there's a definite difference among them, and I may have missed one for the heavy and light categories.

As far as categories people like, Romance and Incest score very well in terms of high votes. Loving Wives scores quite low. MFF threesome stories usually do well in group sex, MFMF swinging do so-so, MFM threesomes not so well. Humor and Satire stories rarely score very well, nor do Reviews and Essays.

For an author, especially starting out, I'd really recommend writing what you think is hot, because it will be much more fun to write. Just be forewarned that if "cuckold" type stories are your thing they are very poorly rated here.

That surprises me. I didn't think that category would get many hits at all.

Why should I avoid loving wives?

That one is easy as well. Watch the feedback portal on the main page for a day, checking every once in a while ( it updates at intervals, rather than instantly ) and notice the sort of long-winded vitriolic comments that post in Loving Wives. Some of the tirades are longer than the actual stories. Many readers there can't seem to tell the difference between fantasy and reality :p

Well, the one thing I have noticed is that the Romance readers are more inclined to vote and leave comments. For sheer number of reads, as it has been mentioned previously, The Incest Taboo is the most widely read.

Non-Erotic is the least read category.

That's so true. The largest number of reads in a short period of time I've had have been in Romance.

In Sci-Fi I've had more reads, but it seems to take a long time - Like MONTHS. Humor - you just have to gather a following. You'll get few reads and almost no votes on your first few stories there. Then you will get a respectable number of reads and maybe 30 total votes. Those two catagories you just have to stick with, keep posting and pray.

I have to comment here. Cloudy, I love you as a friend and have much respect for you, but the Loving Wives forum is not the kiss of death you make it out to be.

If a story is written responsibly and true to the cat, I have found the cat very accepting.

Big huggs, Cloudy.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness, but that was Jenny, the other bitch. ;)

From personal experience (I have yet to venture into the Incest category - strong "ick" barrier to overcome!)
I have found Group Sex and Anal both have higher reader numbers than either of my Erotic Couplings entries. My Loving Wives entry has much higher reads, but is the lowest scored of my stories. It still has a score of just on 4 though, so I'm very happy.
But the story with the most reads by far is my Non-consent story. It is my second newest story and has over 9000 more views than my next highest (the LW one which has been up 3 months longer).
Writing in Non-consent apparently is a little like walking a tightrope, rather like Loving Wives. There are people who read those categories just to get outraged. If you're prepared to risk a monumental flaming, the rewards can be very good.

On the flipside, Erotic Horror and Celebrities are very slow.

Thank you Cloudy. I am the other BITCH :D

What Assylum is saying is true. There are some great writers in the LW cat. Some of the stories in there are first rate. Unfortunately, one can never know how the readers in that cat will react even to a good story. I've seen really well written stories trashed for petty or no reason in there many times.

There just doesn't seem to me to be much consistancy in way the votes are cast in there.

For those reasons, it's not a place I would recommend a newbie goes for his first post.

Yeah, I can see that Starrkers. I wrote an anal story a few years ago (under my orig nic). It was about some guy who woke up in the moring with a sore ass in bed with a tranny.

The hate mail for that story held the record for hate mail until I did the rape story. :(

As best as I can tell, if you aren't writing cuckold or revenge then you'll avoid the biggest part of the vitriol. Reconciliation will sometimes earn some venom, depending on the rest of the story. The other camps aren't quite as vocal.

I do agree that, as a whole, the readers are more than a little unstable and unpredictable.

I've only received one "bad" comment on the Non-Consent story, and none at all on the Anal. I must be doing it wrong!

You cannot box us into the staus quo.... write what you feel, feel what you desire, and to hell with those who do not understand.....I will share it with you... find me, and together we will write something that will make all gasp...... they will hesitate....... the true erotica, is in the soul...

I posted my first story in LW. Even though it still holds it's 'H,' I got a lot of bullshit PCs and private comments about it, attacking me from everything about the legal issues in the story to the depictions of the characters.

I've since learned.
