Tomorrow I'm hitting my first real mountain trail.:D :D Can't wait, super excited, hope I don't kill myself. I don't really know what to expect. All I know is that the fact I'm going in the middle of my work week makes it even better.:D

Wish me luck!

Good luck bud.

I've been riding for about six years but didn't get into clipless pedals until the last two. Had my share of bad spills and still crash but love it. I've started road riding more as well.

Hope you have a great time. Don't do anything that doesn't feel good - paralysis of fear is not fun and you won't want to go back.

peace,

you will hurt the day after :) ... good luck though

i did a 10 mile one recently that was great fun i didnt come off at all im not an experienced mountain biker but i had people with me that were it was fun ... but i did ache some the next day :)

I used to ride a MTB, back before everybody and there dogs did. It was hard to find a frame to fit someone 6'6", but it is easier now. I can't ride anymore - kills my back. Too bad - kept me in shape.

I suggest getting some shin guards - both the pedals and the branches/rocks/etc. will bruise your shins if you don't. Of course, wear a helmet always, and gloves.

Helmet and gloves, check.

Shin guards, oh shit.

Hope you have fun...........

If you decide you like it and want to bike an A regular basis, invest in A GOOD pair of biking shorts. It takes A lot of the discomfort away and lets you enjoy the experiance much more.:D

Brused butt, inner thighs and other senitive areas are no fun.

i am so going to get killed. I'll let you all know about it tomorrow.:D

I've always wanted to mount a biker.. does that count? ;) :p

Actually I think that counts for more.;)

Well let's see. After everything I've heard so far I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that by this time tomorrow night, I'm going to be feeling rather sore. So knowing someone with your, um, interests should be rather beneficial.;)

Some guys at work asked me to go mountain biking with them. It sounded like fun. I had not been in awhile but ya never forget how to ride a bike. These guys were in shape and I was not. I worked my ass off to keep up with them and burned up my water very quickly. Finally we reached the top of the trail and looked down over the path going up. I live in Colorado and we happen to have a few mountains in this state. Not a "fourteener" but a tough climb to be sure.

Going down would be easy. Gravity will do the work and I can enjoy the sites. Bullshit. The trail down was super hard packed with a dusting of dirt that made it slicker than snot. I was exhausted and had arms and legs of rubber. I came to a blind curve going way too fast and slid off the hill grinding the skin off of the left side of my body. I was a bloody mess.

When I reached the truck I walked down to the stream to clean the dirt and rocks out of my wounds. I looked up to see a senior citizens fishing class staring at me in disbelief.

Have fun on your trip. :)

If you...

Ride through traffic to get there, by the time you're at the trail, you'll be fearless. The first time I rode in traffic I was scared shitless, far more of a white knuckle experience that my first real trail.

Shinguards are a great idea. I don't have any so I wear engineer boots, they're thick enough leather to give a fighting chance against branches, dogs that give chase, Etc. If you're on a wooded trail, be careful not to remove your rear chain derailer(sp?) On fallen branches. Have a spare inner tube or 2 with you.

I put about 30 miles on my bike per day, about 50 a day on the weekends, 7 months out of the year. Saves money, keeps the air clean, keeps me alert and in shape. Any time during the day I find I get places several minutes faster than if I were driving, since I split lanes at the left turn lights like I do on a motorcycle.

So have a great ride, get into it. Sure toughens you up.

Any of you used a mountain or road bike with disc brakes? how is it? I want I want!

Ouch! Ouch! Owwwwww!

Well, we got an early start on the day and we had fantastic biking weather. Couldn't have hoped for a better day.

My bike and I are covered with mud. And I, let's see, I sprained an ankle, bloodied an elbow, scratched up a thigh, and got sunburned pretty good.

Going back next Thursday.:D :D :D
