Any good tips, for us lesser mortals?

You know when you're just not in the mood for Lit, or you really feel like surfing for a while? Well in those moments, have you got any tips on how to go about looking in the right places.

Like which search engine you use and why? Plus any tips that people like myself might not know, like quotes on either side of a given word to narrow it down. That's about the only one I know.

I stumbled across True Porn Clerk Stories in a random search for kitchen counter tops. It's a pretty funny read. And doesn't even remotely have anything to do with kitchen counter tops.

I use ixquick.com, the best of the metasearch engines. It simultaneously searches 14 other well known search engines with your query, and finds better results than any one of them.

Google is the best search engine. It not only ranks the sites, but it separates the sites that have paid to have their names associated with searches from the regular hits.

Oh, and refdesk.com. They advertise themselves as the "single best source for facts on the Net", and the number and quality of links they have is impressive. You can go through them and find links to hundreds of on-line newspapers from around the world, among many other things.

Reading newspapers from different continents and cultures should be a requirement before posting in the political threads...
