I've created one and I'll attach it to my Lit account soon.

How quickly did you gain subscribers?

Do most actually expect regular content, or do they just want to tip you?

I'm not expecting much, problably a couple of subscribers here and there.

Here's another thread on it with good info as well.

have a great day

EDIT: Shameless plug, here's my Patreon:

EDIT #2: Check out this site with a list of erotica authors. Top person makes about 10-35k a month

I thought about starting one, but of course the crooked ass US Government taxes it.

It's not worth it, IMO.

Like most things, you get out what you put in to it. If you don't post much and don't communicate with your patrons, you can expect few subscribers and to not make much money.

If you are active and engage with them you'll see them respond to it.

But more importantly, you need to be adding new content on a regular schedule. Weekly, monthly, whatever, but you need to tell your fans what's going on and work the hype to give them a reason to keep coming back.

From what I have seen, you need to offer them something extra. Like voting on your story choices - What will be the theme of your next story, what kinks etc, and/or making the stories available to Patreon users only, while Lit readers get to read the story after a month or two delay. Once you attract the monthly subscribers you need to give them content at regular intervals, or even bill them only when the next story/chapter is published (as some authors do)

I'm curious what the motive is for doing it. From what I've seen it seems like the return on investment for these kinds of things is tiny. Why go to the effort and expense of creating another platform if only a handful will see what you do and you won't be sufficiently compensated? You have an enormous readership here. Wouldn't your time be better spent just writing more stories here?

I'm not criticizing, just curious. It's something I've thought about doing but when I do a little research and read about others' experiences it just doesn't seem worth it.

All of my stories will still go to Lit, and on Patreon it'll be previews and the chance to provide input or even commisions -- i'm upfront about that.

A portion of of the profits will go to charity. Largely i'm curious about how it'll do. Frankly i expect to get maybe 10 subscribers eventually and i'll be happy with that.

You don't need to have such modest expectations if you are serious about Patreon, in my opinion. The type of stories you write attract far more readers than Tefler's, yet even in a category with a mediocre number of readers, he managed to build up subscribers by being patient and consistent. Well, by writing several million words in his series, also ;) Now as you see, he gets 7k+ bucks for a 30k words chapter or so. Not bad, I would say 😁

Thanks for the nice words.

Wow, just looked him, he has 4,400 subscribers, but that's for exclusive content. I remember seeing his work on Lit, he's really popular in sci fi.

Hi everyone! I've just setup my Patreon now I mentioned in the comments of a few of the last chapters that I wanted to do this and I did have some fans saying they would like to support me. I haven't written anything for a few years, I think I will need to maybe do a half chapter and put the final half on Patreon to generate some interest. I think it's a better way to do than take my stories off here. How long does it take for the Patreon link to appear in my stories? Anyone have any insight into that? My plan is to write more new series and try to produce one a week to make it interesting for my subscribers.

That's hard against the rules. On pretty much ANY site you can post your stories on. Either you post your stories here completely, or you don't post them here at all.

Well, there are some I know are bending those rules. It's not like anyone checks these things, so he should be fine unless someone reports him.

Really? I would have thought that is one thing they are pretty eager to crack down on. I mean, there are few things more discouraging for your user base than having them bombarded with teasers and payment requests.

There are so many authors and stories here, but barely any manpower to handle all of that content, so it's not hard to get away with many things. If it weren't for user reports, I'd say that Lit wouldn't have been able to enforce even half of its policies.

Also true...

Just like any other payment platform, the moment they discover it's linked to adult material, there's a better than average chance they ban you and keep every dime in your account.

Probably just when you've accumulated enough subscribers to make you smile, and "coincidentally" only "moments before" you try to make a withdrawal from the account.
