Any bird experts out there?

So some doves have decided that hanging planter is the perfect place for a nest.

I have counted three different birds. I'm not sure if they are mmf, or ffm but I know at least one is a male and at least one is a female because they have an egg in the nest they have built in my snow peas.

What I don't know is if it is the norm for doves to come in triads. I thought they just coupled, but I know some birds do tripple up.

Just curious really.
 
There is a section at the bottom of this link that speaks of male-male couples and even threesomes. I don't know how common it is, though.
