My wife came across these two watches in a old jewelry box she had in storage ( it was her grandmothers).
Both have Gruen on the face under the 12. Both have precision on the bottom above the 6. One has Swiss under the 6. Both Have Gruen 14k stamped on the back.
To save the goggle warriors some time this is what I have found/know:
Gruen watches made from 1867-1953 by the American father/son team can be collector items, especially if they were made pre WWII.
Once they closed down, Gruen watches were made in Switzerland from 58 to 76.These are not really collector items.
A company in NY makes replicas today that are worthless.
I do not think they are replicas because I do not think they make real gold replicas, but could be wrong. I tested the gold with a strong magnet so I am 90% sure it is real. After winding them up they both worked and kept accurate time (for 1 hour).
Any insight?
