Why not? Let's collect pearls of Lit authorial wisdom in one central locataion for the delic-- delec-- dilec--, um, joy of the masses!

I'll start!

How long until a story is posted?

24-72 hours. Sometimes the webmistress will get backed up and it will take up to a week. Sometimes there is something involved in your story that requires additional formatting time or she is considering whether or not to stick it into Extreme. These may take more time.

How do I make the link to my stories in my signature line active?

Go to your memberpage and copy your URL from your address bar. It'll look like this: http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=1832

Then go to UserCP, edit profile, and head down to the Signature line box. Type in the following (or C'n P this with your info added):

<A HREF="http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=1832" target="_blank">Whatever you want people to see here!</A>

It'll look like this: Whatever you want people to see here! Please note that this example uses vB code and you can't use it in sig lines. Use HTML.

How do I put italics in my stories instead of making Laurel do it?

Use HTML! Laurel will edit out almost all HTML you stick in your stories, but she won't edit out italics or boldface tages. <I>Your italicized text</I> or <B>Your boldfaced text</B>

She won't let you use italics or boldface in your entire document, but you can use it in addition to regular text in order to make whatever authorial point you need to make with it.

The reason why you can't use a lot of HTML is that this is added already by the scripts when you submit. Each page possesses a header, title, style, errata. All you need to actually submit is your non-tabbed, double spaced paragraphed text. The scripts do the rest! (They took long enough, they should mix drinks while they're at it. ;))

How do I change the font in my text?

You don't. Any HTML to that effect will be edited out.

How do I get into contact with the webmasters? My emails seem to be ignored.

In addition to the 6ish hours of straight porn Laurel reads every night, she gets tons of email. Your mail will easily get lost. The best way to get in contact with her is to use the bulletin board to PM her or to start a thread in the appropriate forum. She will eventually see it and answer questions, or maybe someone else who has asked the question before will be able to answer it for you.

How do I put links in my story?

You don't. You are only permitted internal links, that is links to other Literotica pages. You can ask to have your story linked to another site, but there should be a good non-spam reason for it.

Anyone else know any answers to questions? Actually have questions? Our panel of experts will all look it over and probably say, "good questions, dunno!"

Bold or Italic - How-To

Nice work KM. But I'm hurt <quivers lower lip>.

I actually wrote a How-To on incorporating Bold and italic into a submission!

You could always send the nice people along here.

Alex

There, there. I know. Laurel wrote up an FAQ, too. I pre-empted it here as well.

Sorry.

You got any more answers tucked up in that adorable brain of yours?

Dunno. What's the question? I know!

Question: How do I use bold and italic and color changes and size changes in posts?

Answer: Use vB codes. You'll find out all about those here!

Alex

(and what sort of can of worms am I opening here?)

a question to the pros ;)

seriously now...

i have been receiving feedback for new stories i've added to my collection.

I am receiving some wonderful feedback, but the problem is, Literotica's Feedback Form is no longer telling me which story the feedback is being referred from.

Is there a glitch, or is this something i have in my usual complete ignorance have switched off?

after all... i'd like to have the brains to at least know what i'm thanking my fan for ;)

Question:

Being fairly new here, I paced myself a bit before I added my first stories.

I read a ton of stories that were here. Carefully went over the submission guidelines. Thouroughly reviewed all the information under writer's resources. Then I started scouting for a volunteer editor. I seriously think this program is defunct. I finally got to a point where I posted without editor feedback.

For beginner writers that really don't want to make a serious faux pas, this program could be invaluable. Answers to simple questions like "what category do you think this really belongs in?" would have definately helped me.

Any alternatives to this?

Hi pinklipstick,

Yes, I understand exactly how you feel. I had a terrible time tracking down an editor. Believe me nobody needs one more than me. Now I have two who have agreed to look at my stories. One gentleman, and one lady. Both excellent!

I wrote to 5 editors on the editors' list, but only one wrote back to say she was no longer interested.

My advice is, do what I did, find an author/authors whose work you really like and admire, then just ask. You will still get knock backs. A couple of author told me the reason they stopped editing was that too many people didn't want to take the advice that was offered. I can certainly understand that, editing must take alot of time and effort.

Killer Muffin and Alex... 'my name too :)

Thank you for the useful information. I'm going to really jazz up my postings now.:)

wildsweetone,

Hi neighbour, and congratulations on your latest and obviously successful story/stories. I must check them out. :)

Have a great day,

Alex (fem)

I think the editor program is inefficient to the point of being a waste of time for authors. It was a great idea, but apparently impossible to maintain. It must be a nightmare trying to keep the list current. I'm sure most people who decide not to participate anymore never bother to tell Laurel.

My advice on getting help with editing and questions such as the one above, is to participate on this Author Hangout bulletin board. We are a supportive, informative group and almost all questions get answered. If you're looking for editorial assistance, ask on the Editor's Forum, or here. I'd specify what type of help you need (general proofreading, or deep analysis) and offer to return the favor. I believe people get more response here than going through the Volunteer Editor channels.
