Not sure if this one has been reported yet, but a reader sent me a link to Asianstories.com where my story Karma is there under the title love diner. The person did a find replace and changed character names, otherwise its identical.

Unlike other sites there is a way-once you register which is simply creating an ID, not even an e-mail required-there is a report feature on every story, so I left a comment on the story and reported it.

So if anyone wants to have a look about here is the link

Well then I guess they're a cut above the usual sites and don't want to support thieves.

I always wonder how many times a site like Lush or stories online will find stories from there placed on here.?

SOL has the advantage of being behind a membership wall. Only people who sign up can view more than a preview of a story. So, most story-stealing bots get bumpkis. If someone does sign up, there are a limited number of story reads per day, depending upon membership level, so they can only lift so many. They also have a system in place that detects many of the standard scraping techniques and delivers gibberish to the scraper + the URL for SOL.

I've seen where that has happened, and the thief's bot went ahead and posted the gibberish and link completely unaltered. It was rather giggle-worthy.

Lush prevents the standard click and drag method of copy paste, which is easily defeated by someone who wants to snatch it either manually or by a bot. Beyond that, I'm not aware of any other protective measures in place.

SOL doesn't have many stories stolen because there are a lot of hoops to jump through. Lush has just as much of a problem as Lit if you scale it by the traffic differences.

As far as finding stories here stolen from those sites, I've seen very few reports of it. I can only think of one on Lush, and I jumped straight here to report it, as well as explaining the delay that would happen between it being removed from the database and disappearing from public view, because the site is cached. I believe I may have read one such complaint on SOL long, long ago.

I had a case of this a couple of years ago. I post the stories on other Web sites under a different name than they are posted here. A reader reported that one of my stories that was here and at another site was stolen from the other site and posted here. Laurel quickly deleted the story and the account.

I remember awhile back I was exchanging e-mails with Many Feathers who told me his original name here was "The Sandman". He then created the MF handle and re-published the story and had a slew of nasty comments telling him he had stolen from the Sandman and they were reporting the story.

I haven't heard from him in along time, not since a few months after his stroke, he has't posted a story in close to two years. His wife was having serious health issues as well. Hope he's okay.

I think my work's safe. Who the hell would want to claim responsibility for that horror? Only those with the most fucked-up minds.

The ones with the most fucked up minds tend to come to porn sites. You are not safe here!
