The noise was so loud it was a surprise it couldn’t be heard in the mansions of the haughty nobles who lived miles away. Any kind of lowbrow activity could be found to distract one from their squalor-filled lives for a few hours. It was a dirty place…and one that Mae simply adored. One would never find the type of clientele as the “Bleeding Goat Inn” drew in. Mae never knew what to expect to see coming through those swinging doors, though she knew her mug was getting dangerously low. Her vivid jade eyes sparkled in the mixture of lights from the three different hearths lining the walls, the delight shimmering clearly within their depths. Her deft digits shifted before her and smoothly fanned out the cards within her grasp, displaying to her the icons that told her the hand was worth little more than a pile of pig excrement. Yet the light never disappeared from her entrancing gaze, indeed, the smirk of a smile only drifted wider upon her achingly beautiful visage.
“All in…!” She called out above the echoing din that permeated the entire establishment. She clutched the cards within her right hand, only to bring the left to her lips, which curled about the thick girth of a cigar. She bit down on the end and inhaled sharply, only to draw the cigar back and blow a puff of smoke out across the table. The men circling Mae’s table muttered and shifted, each eyeing each other and the beautiful barbarian in turn. Several followed her suit, while others tossed their cards angrily onto the table. She shifted the cigar within her maw, inhaling sharply once more and causing the end to glow a violent red. She shifted her cards once more and leaned in, catching the gaze of the remaining men at her table. They went around for another time before they all folded; which only caused Mae to bust out in a fit of laughter and slam her worthless cards down. Shimmering orbs of piercing jade looked out from underneath silken bangs of crimson. The rest of her hair was kept cropped short, lest it be snatched up in melee. Her features were both striking and achingly beautiful. An elegantly arched neck lead down to a voluptuous and ravishing figure, taut and toned from a life of battle. Her more than ample breasts were held captive by a bluish-silver breastplate, no doubt made of mithral, exquisitely crafted and polished to a gleaming sheen. A cape of deep verdant green lay draped over her proud shoulders, a vivid contrast to her shocking red hair. Resting comfortably against the table at her side was a massive battle axe, its wooden haft wrapped in blacken leather and double headed axe blade gleaming with intricate runes. Mae sat with one leg crossed over the other, those long and toned legs clad in a pair of skin tight black leather breeches. A pair of dusty brown, calf high boots completed her rugged warrior’s outfit. She seemed out of place in such a dirty and filthy inn, her clothing too clean and her posture too straight. Perhaps she could have been mistaken for a noble…that is unless she opened her mouth.
“Thanks for being suckers, boys!” She cackled merrily and scooped up the glittering pile of coins towards herself, hurriedly she scooped the coins into her small pack, which seemed to greedily devour more than its small size should allow.
