Well, while you were bitching about us lazy Americans, this lazy American was sleeping. ;)

I did get up early enough to take these shots of my surroundings, just to make you jealous. As you can see, while it will not be that warm (probably about 55 degrees) it does promise to be a beautiful November day.

Here is the shot of the bay.

Are these products of your digi cam? Nice pics btw.
Yep. I took them about 30 minutes ago from my yard (unfortunately that is not the view from my windows as there is a fence I have to peek over to see that view).

I took them then lightened them up in photoshop to reflect what the human eye sees, then I cropped them a little, then I shrunk them down to a size that the board needs (800x600 or smaller), then I saved them with level 3 JPEG compression so they would not take a long time to load (level 0 is the most compression.

Here is a picture of the tree in my yard. I think the reason the file is so much larger is that the compression worked much better on the blue sky than on all the foliage in my yard.

Thanks for the answer...

I still find it amazing how much JPEG can bring down file size.

Looks like you still have some leaves on your trees(in the backround), they are nearly all gone here(except the Beech trees, of course).

Here is a view of Mt. Baker with both optical and digital zooms maxxed out. The previous shot was just with max optical zoom. This particular shot was taken at 1024x768 or medium resolution, then lightened in Photoshop, then the image size shrunken down to 800x600, and saved at JPEG level compression 4.

The miracles of mathematics and redundancy. If you go too far you start to get artifacts. My camera allows me to set the amount of compression I want in the camera too - three different settings, or just plain raw TIFF mode.

I noticed when I was down in Oregon that they have more leaves on their trees and that it was warmer. That will change as winter comes on; when winter really hits the Willamette valley is usually 10 degrees cooler on the average than the Puget Sound. We have that water to keep us a little warmer and drier. In the summer it is usually ten degrees hotter in Oregon, but they tend to get more sunny days too.

Nice view..

Greetings..

Just thought I'd drop in and comment on how fortunate you are to have such a spectacular view from your house.. Kind of reminds me of when I lived in the Appalachian Mountains.. Boy does that take me back.. Anywho.. Thanks for the scenic views of Oregon.. I'll have to add one of those to my desktop..

Actually, those are scenic views from over the fence, and they are of Washington, not Oregon - but yeah, I pretty much prefer the Pacific Northwest most of the time, except when it rains incessantly...

I thought I learned the states in grade school..

Greetings again..

My mistake.. I read 'Oregon' in another thread, and foolishly jumped to conclusions and assumed.. Oh well.. Anywho.. As for the rain in the Pac NW.. Looks like you're having pretty decent weather today..

Hey STG - need a roomie?:D
I need someone to share my king sized bed - half of it goes unslept on. ;)

Stunning pics!
I want to do a panorama but to get a good view I think I would have to get up on my roof, or better yet my neighbor's roof. The problem with my view is I cannot see it from my windows; I have to go out in the yard, walk up an incline and peer over the fence. When they built the housing development next to my place, they pushed some dirt up about five feet to make a little hill, and then put a fence on top of it, so really all I see out of my window are my tree and the fence.

Someday, I would like to get a place overlooking a lake. I da nice view of a lake from my office, but that job is no longer.

Well I did mention Oregon in one of my posts, and I am an Orygun native from the Willamette Valley, but now I live in the Puget Sound. I visit my family in Oregon periodically and that is what all the comparison was about.

wow nice pics STG your views outside are very special ... i'd love to live near mountains and lakes i bet the air there is very nice too

thanks your differnately not lazy if you've taken all those pics :)

Shy Tall Guy,

The pictures are awesome. It must be like being on vacation every single day for you. I just can't imagine a more beautiful view than that to wake up to each morning. You're a very lucky man. Enjoy that beautiful sight for the rest of us.

Not to change the subject, but I wish you could have taken pictures of something that was happening here in Northern Ohio last night and early this morning. We were honored with being able to see the Northern Lights. Every once in a while we have that luxury and last night it was magnificent. The colors blue, white, and some pink were coming like waves in the sky. It was incredible to watch.

That view is simply breathtaking.
Well, those were the views I can see if I look over my fence one way. If I don't look over the fence, but turn around and look down the street I see what my neighbors leave out before, during and after trash day (today is trash collection day):

Well since I am on "sabbatical" it is a vacation - but I need to end it here someday in the next couple of months. But on a day like today I want to be outside enjoying it and not worry about such things. I have often out and just stood at the end of the street (I live on a dead end) and just taken in the sight. Of course I cropped the photos so they would show all the houses too, but I mostly ignore them anyway.

I have yet to really see the Northern Lights, even though I spent quite a bit of time in Alaska, most of the time it was cloudy there, and when it was clear it wsa summer and it didn't get dark enough to see them - they don't always come out. Lost Cause is a night owl and he says he has seen them sometimes here late at night, but I haven't.

Interestingly, it used to be my job to measure some aspects of the N. Lights; a company I used to work for would bounce comm signals off the ionized layers of the atmosphere, and in Alaska we would get a lot of what we called E-layer bounce.

Here is another photo of what Mt. Baker looks like at about noon today.

I forgot to say that the N. Lights are supposed to be very hard to take pictures of - it takes a lot of skill and preparation to get a good photo that shows them, much less does justice to the colors.

Here is a photo to the east off towards Granite Falls where I like to go riding my motorcycles. Maybe I should make that loop one last time before the snow sets in enough to prevent me from riding the Mountain Loop. Nah, the dirt part of the road is probably muddy enough to cause some problems and I don't want to crash right now (I have crashed on that road before) - I think I will just ride down to the water and watch the ferries come and go. Ahhh, life in paradise.... :D

Well, that is the Puget Sound so it is actually the ocean, but we have plenty of lakes here too. There is a region called the Nine Lakes area that is out in the country that is nice. I looked at buying a house there once, but held off, which is a good thing as I would hate to have a big house payment over my head right now.

thanks your differnately not lazy if you've taken all those pics :)
Oh I am definitely lazy - except when it comes to doing something I enjoy - like taking photos. Lost Cause should be getting up any time now and leaving for work in a while - maybe I can get a photo of him on his Harley. He hasn't been on Lit because he has been working 10-12 hour days 6-7 days a week.
