As a new writer, and one who admittedly has a lot to learn, I value the feedback that I recieve on my stories. Good or bad, I try to profit from the coments. I am encouraged, rather than discouraged, and try to improve my writting as a result.

But. To those individuals that choose to criticize anonymously and take pleasure in name calling,
your opinions mean absolutely nother to me. If you want your voice to count for anything, stand up and be an adult, and stop hiding behind 'anonymous'.

Just erase the comments you don't like. If they are habitual negative voters, the site's sweeps probably also has their votes flagged for deleting. Complaining like this just demonstrates impotence--and serves the purposes of those ragging on your stories behind the cloak of anonymity.

Jake,

Welcome to the internet, right? The anonymous factor is the most disheartening element of this big online community. I always wonder why it is so easy for someone to spew such venom, when all they have to do is ask themselves if they would say the same thing to someone's face (in 99.9 percent of the cases, the answer is - of course not).

I have no problem using the delete button on such comments under author feedback, and it has really helped.

Just like you, I'm fine with "there were several typos", or "the way the characters got into bed seemed unbelievable". However, "please stop writing" which I've never seen on my own stories, but have on other folks, or "this was a piece of shit" - something like that would never last more than a second once I saw it.

Good for you for taking the right approach.

Well I've been fortunate enough to have predominantly positive comments, but I had one negative one over a recent submission - not scathing, just overly negative - simply because the critic objected to one of my characters being not to his taste, and the perspective was not to his taste, when both these things defined the story and were pivotal in the writing.

So some don't like the first person perspective - sure, I get that. So some don't like women portrayed as scathing of their inattentive husbands - sure I get that too.

Now this wasn't even an anonymous criticism, but one from a registered member. Look at their profile to try and understand where they are coming from and you get a guy between 51 and 60 with no submissions of his own and a comment that states that he 'only comes here to rant.'

Sometimes you can't win. Victor Meldrews get everywhere.

So I wrote another similar one just to piss him off some more! Should be approved in a coupla days...

Comments are nice, but all of them, nice or otherwise must be taken with a grain of salt.

If one compares reads to comments, it is easy to see that any comment is a rare thing. Imagine a stadium full of people when a touchdown is scored and only four people stand up to cheer.

Well, presumably in the stadium most of them aren't busy going to the bathroom to clean up from the big play produced on the field. :D

LOL - I just added a story and I always enjoy the people that take the time to share their ideas and their pleasure.

I don't mind when someone gives me suggestions to make the story better but it does bother when someone can be so cruel or tell you that the story is not their thing. Well don't read it and really don't read anything of mine again.

I did receive a comment from my last story that is making me laugh - he told me that he did not enjoy my writing style but thinks we should meet so he could help me! No Thanks - I think I will stumble through life on my own.

There will be people in this world that live to be negative and annoy others. The good news is that they don't live that long and are usual alone.

Thanks for everyone that puts their writing out there and is willing to share. That in my eyes makes you bravery then anyone that can not even leave their names when they spew so much negativity.

Coward with a cold dead heart, Anonymous be thy name.

Must I? :(

Nah! :D
