LW is a separate topic. Although you get randomly flamed for a lot of silly stuff in different categories (NC being a big one), LW has those trolls, plus people who read a lot and demand certain things from stories that are not demanded anywhere else on the site. I know of a number of good authors who submitted there with stories that expected the audience to accept certain things in order to enjoy the story, only to find out that the crowd refused to accept anything without a damn good reason.

That's the one category I've found where authors with their own stories to worry about will tell you, "I enjoyed your story but you made X, Y, and Z mistake. Please keep writing, you have talent," then vote you a 3. They are not afraid to tell you if they think you're wrong. At the same time, as someone who has done well there, it is very rewarding to write something that works. My last LW story has been #1 twice, has 50,000 + reads, 57 comments (not counting the 5 or so I just had to delete), and over 300 votes. It's hard to get that kind of response anywhere else on the site. You just have to live with anonymous. He's everywhere.


Seriously, how can you argue with that?

Maybe that gustless ass needs a tutor?

People who leave comments with names but then turn off their email so you can't contact them. ARGH!!!!!!

Do they think that leaving a name with bad comments somehow makes them more brave than Mr. Anonymous who just leaves the comments? Why should it if an author can't get in touch with them anyways? I find it more annoying and more frustrating than just getting a comment I can blow off.

I have some ass who one-bombs every one of my stories and I know exactly who it is. Odd how when you track them down you find they've never posted any stories or poems.

Funny thing was, I got a really, really nice comment on my story from someone, who even included their nickname, and I would love to write back and thank that person for making my day and for saying such lovely things, but their nickname is not listed on Lit anywhere that I can find, and there was no e-mail address. Oh, well, I just hope they know how much an author appreciates flattery. To give Anonymous some credit, he/she/it actually does sometimes say nice things.

That happens sometimes. I just copy their nic into a PM header and respond that way
