I've just dealt with them longer. And they see nice as weak, so you have to be tough. If the ant hill doesn't work out, we can dip them in honey then tuna fish and hang them where the stray cats hang out.

Now you're making my mouth water! What a lovely thought.

SW

Ain't it though? I think the ones that piss me off the most are the people who go through the tops list and knock stories by writers they don't like. They aren't even courageous enough to leave a comment anonymously. They just one bomb and go on their merry way. I know, it happened to me a few days ago, in the order that they were on the list even.

In fact

Why don't we just tar and feather the s.o.b., according to that old and infamous American tradition and leave him hanging by his thumbs in a tree by the road. That way all passers-by can point and laugh and throw rotten vegetables at him. Sometimes I miss the old ways.

SW.

Only if we hang them by the genitals, otherwise they just enjoy the attention.

Eeeeiiiiwwwww!

Now I'm just disgusted! Yuck! I never want to meet a troll face to face! I shall have to remember to have my pepper spray and stungun with me at all times. Blech :p

I'm partial to a flamethrower myself.

I read your story. Nice.

Don't sweat the trolls. Eventually you tune them out, even find them a source of amusement.

Thank you.

I must admit that I have had a few laughs at their expense.

I used to carry a flamethrower but the silly thing won't fit in my purse. I was hoping to find one of those "James Bond" type models that fit in the head of a pen but they are just too damned expensive. So I have reverted to a small can of hairspray and a lighter. :catroar:

Des,

If I had 30 votes I'd give them to you!

SW ;)
That is so adorable . . . thank you. But it is not necessary. Luckily, I have received a ton of votes on that one (my most by far), so it's not a problem. I wasn't trolling for support, just adding my little experience.

But thank you for making me smile. :rose:

Right here in this thread...LOL...as we poke fun at their incompetence and ridiculous rantings. I have been giggling all evening at the comments.

Any time!

Oops, *blushes* maybe I should have chosen my words a little more wisely.

Just flushed out one of my trolls. He identified himself but in so doing cast another low vote. Nice.

Seriously, if you ever feel bad about your Public Comments or number of trolls, follow my sig and check out the PC sections of my stories. The LW ones have wonderful examples of just how creative anonymous (or people who have usernames with no submitted stories) can be. I look at them and am utterly amazed at how well my stories have done, despite them.

The critic-wannabes, as I call them. Bored and bitter humanity with nothing better to do than tear apart something they cannot possibly understand.

I think reading about Ebeneezer helps. :D

I'm like most published writers who have other people's comments posted on their work. I keep the praise and throw out the idiocy of people who don't get it. (unfortunately I can do little about the latter's low votes. :( )

I keep it all

I keep all the comments. (Unless they are truly offensive, as some of them have been.) ;) How else can everyone see what idiots they are?

I also keep all comments, except the ones I consider to to be stupid. Even the negative ones, which I sometimes find amusing, especially in the LW category.

I keep the amusing ones too. Never done a LW story. But my one NC/reluctance one picked up some doozies.

I did delete one PC though. I acknowledged Colleen's help on one of my stories and the troll flamed her.

I'd have deleted the troll himself if I'd been able.

I have that same troll. He/She chastised other writers in comments left on one of my stories. Yep, a Loving Wives entry. The trolls loved that particular story and took great pleasure in shredding it, as well as several of my fellow authors in public comments. I addressed it in a previous entry on this thread. What a bunch of dinks.

Most trolls I've gotten have been such idiots they have added nothing to the story, and thus I've felt that their comments deserved deletion.

Examples from my X-Men story:

- "Storm's name is Aurora, not Ororo."

Both I and another commentor corrected this idiot. I deleted all the comments because they were dumb.

- "Magneto should have kept his powers. If you watch that scene again, you'll see him move the chess piece with his mind."

I did watch the scene again, and I didn't see what you're talking about. Besides, it worked better for my story not to have him retain his powers. I told him all this and did not get a response. I then deleted the comments because it was a pointless stupid debate that distracted attention from the story, and that was not good.

LW is a separate topic. Although you get randomly flamed for a lot of silly stuff in different categories (NC being a big one), LW has those trolls, plus people who read a lot and demand certain things from stories that are not demanded anywhere else on the site. I know of a number of good authors who submitted there with stories that expected the audience to accept certain things in order to enjoy the story, only to find out that the crowd refused to accept anything without a damn good reason.

That's the one category I've found where authors with their own stories to worry about will tell you, "I enjoyed your story but you made X, Y, and Z mistake. Please keep writing, you have talent," then vote you a 3. They are not afraid to tell you if they think you're wrong. At the same time, as someone who has done well there, it is very rewarding to write something that works. My last LW story has been #1 twice, has 50,000 + reads, 57 comments (not counting the 5 or so I just had to delete), and over 300 votes. It's hard to get that kind of response anywhere else on the site. You just have to live with anonymous. He's everywhere.

this was sad plot
