i am a guy & wear an ankle bracelet / anklet, i do not see any guys who do, but recall years ago when there were those unwritten codes to indicate someone's preferences - yellow on certain days, wearing jewelry on one side or the other meant a person is gay or straight, anyway, any of those ridiculous things still out there ? I get looks sometimes and wonder. I have no intention of removing it, I have worn one for years and will continue to do so...people can think what they want I guess but I am curious about the thoughts behind those looks from other men.
For the record, I am 45, married, consider myself bi, but am still in that closet as "the Mrs" is not quite open to the idea and I do not want to hurt her, lose her or my family

I am 38 & about all I remember for anklets is that the left meant you were "taken" & the right meant you were "available"...
earrings back in the '80 on a guy was a whole different story.....

sorry I can't help more...

Yeah, what I remember is earrings, too. I think right meant gay and left meant straight, but I could have it backwards!

As for colors, perhaps you are thinking of the hanky code? If you see a man at a gay event with a colored hanky in his pocket, he's looking for somebody. If it's on the left, he wants to do things TO somebody, and if it's on the right it means he wants things done to HIM. Lesbians occasionally wear this too but I've seen it far more often on men. You can see an example list of the colors here:
