I have received an animated gif file in an e-mail and would like to use it as my avatar but when I try to save it I lose the animations.
Any advice gratefully welcomed, thanks!

First, you a probably aren't losing the animation when you save it from the e-mail, it's just that the program you have associated with the GIF file type doesn't display the animation.

If you resize it with a program that doesn't display the animation, it only resizes and saves the first frame.

There is a site (gifworks?) that will let you resize animations online. There's a link to it in one of the threads on resizing pics .

www.JASC.com has a trial version of "animation shop" available to allow you to build and/or resize animations -- it works WITH paintshop pro, also available at JASC's site. It was also on the commercial copy of PaintShop Pro I bought at CompUSA.

Be Warned -- MOST animations are too big to be avatars even once you get them down to 150 x150 pixels. The 20Kb files size limitation for avatars is too small for complicated animations to meet.
