Background:

The Emperor of Anich is dead long live........??? Well there isn't a new leader of the empire. The Emperor died in a palace blood bath with four factions cutting each other down. The first faction his elite palace guard in their mechanical battle armor wanting to setup a military dictatorship. They have thousands of supporters among the regular army which is huge. The next faction is the priests who conduct rituals and build temples to their gods. They demand a theocracy with their high priest taking the throne. The third are the young princes. The emperor took many wives and hand many more concubines. The emporer would give each son a company of soldiers. The daughters were sent to palaces and nunnaries all over the empire. The princes are united at least for the time being. The Emperor who was paranoid (seems rightly so now) before his death built thousands of clay soldiers who are strong, loyal, and obedient and are still fighting for their dead emperor make up the fourth faction. The second most powerful empire is in turmoil.

The lack of stablity has weakened the empire all over. The Navy on the Eastern Coast is now divided into factions and taking part in piracy. This has allowed the Japanese who primarily make their living off of the loot taken from raids. Also there are some small conclaves Vikings raid, pillage, and take slaves. The great Eastern ocean has its shares of raiding warrior tribes that have now become bolder since the navy is weak. On the Northern border the Mongol mercenary regiments unpaid and disgruntled has stopped maining the walls and have begone pillaging to feed their themselves. The lack of troops on the walls have allowed hordes of Trolls, Orcs, Orges have come steeming over the border taking slaves. To make things worse the noble houes of Eporue have start to assemble armies under kings and high priest so they can invade and take the outlying providences of the Anich empire and perhaps beyond. From the Southern jungle regions warlords launch attacks to expant their territories.

Monsters roam the country side cutting down peasants and eating them alive. Priests rally worshippers, call on angels and demons and raise undead armies. The military is drafting every young man the can while the princes lead armies of cavalry so large they shake the earth. The clay warriors work to secure every imperial castle and who controls them is a mystery. Who has the strength to unite the empire or at least hold their on kingdom together?

Role of the player/writers.....

The players take the roles of provincial nobles who have their on providence with one city to begin the game. There are three choices of races to command. The Asians a generic mix of Japanese and Chinese Medieval cultures. They are native to the region and are mostly farmers. They are in greater numbers then any of the other groups and have the most territory at the beginning. The Next group is the Eporue explorers who are primarily merchants soldiers. They are the second largest group and look like Renaissance Europeans complete with pikes and muskets. Mostly living on the coast in small settlements they see the crisis as a time to gain glory, gold, and territory. The third group is Aliens...player created races that have secured very small areas of territory. They have advanced weapons (repeat muskets, limited lazer weapons) and starships (think SpellJammer tech). The players can submit ideas for consideration with the third group.

The game world has many things because it is Anime based....

1. Unexplained technology. You will find and build more advanced weapons like tanks and assault rifles but keep in mind the fantasy aspects. Scribes might have computers and cellphones are few but out there...Birth control, canned soda, and rockets are all our there to be found.

2. Magic is accessable to those willing to learn. Magic objects may even be built in factories if you can find godo workers and wizards. Riding large beasts like dragons is possible. Every see 1,000 men with magic swords and shields? Like a never ending pot of rice or flying boats?

3. Peasants are a renewable resource. Wipe out millions there are still more as long as you give them time to replenish their ranks.

Like what you hear so far? Interested in bring peace to this troubled land or securing your territory and letting the rest go to hell? Up to you and the possiblies are endless.

Questions ask away. More background and information coming though as well as basic character setup. Write your own epic saga.

jagged once again a very creative idea, i shall play an alien warrior race Ill have a better idea to you within the day. I will call them the Tuatha and they will be spiffy

Excellant I was hoping you would be interested. Ask all the question you want....You will even get to design a culture, weapons, and vehicles.

What about a faction of Messianic Jews who field armies of Golems which are traditionally immune to "fire, lightning, and the weapons of man", but can be defeated with magic or by erasing the first letter of the word written on to their forehead changing it from "truth" to "death".

Ah no.....Golems sure though they fit a fantasy setting well, but not ones that are practically invulnerable to everything. Not much up for making fun of any group. Thanks for the interest though...feel free to come up with another idea.

Name: Tuatha
type:alien warrior race
description: The Tuatha are tall and athletic built, known for their superhuman speed, strength and endurance. They are religious and militaristic, to the point where they subsumed another species to do their grunt work, a group of short but tough and strong simian creatures called the Danaan. Their religion revolves around one particular god named Cairn, a war god, also known as lord of blades, among many other things. The tuatha are virtually immortal, living for an insanely long time unless killed. They are in appearance humanlike, save for their height, pointy ears and their dragonlike wings that seem to fold to unnaturally small size until they decide to open them. The tuatha are very disciplined in many ways. upon reaching adulthood, around 15 human years old, they choose a "path" and an "aspect" basically some art they desire to master. The paths are
The path of the warrior
The path of the mage
The path of the priest
The path of the scientist
The path of the engineer
each path is divided into specific aspects (i.e. Path of the Warrior aspect of The Swordsmen, Path of the Scientist aspect of the Physician etc etc.) and i will list more of those later

Once they are recognized as masters of this art, they may choose another one, if they havent been mentally consumed by their devotion to their chosen path. for those who have become mentally consumed by the path, they become exarchs who are the truly amazing members of the Tuatha society.

Tuatha society is ruled by the council of 5, these five are the primarchs of each path. The most influential primarch is the primarch of warriors. The offices are listed below

Champion of Cairn- Danath Da'agret (master-primarch of warriors)
Archmagus- Kionar Alvereth (master-primarch of mages)
Archcanon-Kinara Alaradin (mistress-primarch of priests)
Investigarius- Baldu'un Karima (master-primarch of scientists)
Archshaper- Kordo Balnazzar (master-primarch of scientists)

any questions? ask and ill to flesh out more later. for now i am tired

Well I like it my friend...few minor changes are needed though. Let's say peasants are average.....your people above average not super. Perhaps not all your people develop wings..maybe only warriors or a select order? No employees to start with you can force peasants to do work when you invade but no race to do the dirty work.

Otherwise I think it is very creative....we will discuss more details soon. I like your invaders..we need more people though. Also you will receive gifts that will be useful for your force.

Okay a lot of views which is what I like ot see.....care to join? Anything holding you back? Any questions that need answering that will get you off the fence?

I've been considering this for a while so a number of those veiws are mine.

If youd be kind enough to post a basic character and town setup, I'd apreciate it. I am having trouble with the town.

How ever I am currently picturing a monestary of monks. So they'd be in with the preists but tend to be worth while in combat.

Ask and answered:

Town or landing site name:

(Shanghai, Landingsite 2B, Hong Kong...etc)

Political Leanings:

(who you like...don't like of major factions. Maybe you don't like any of the factions and are waiting to see how the battle goes. Just make note.)

Location:

(Inland or coastal and North or South. Large country so I am keeping it simple pick two)

Ruling Family:

(whether it is just you as chief or head of the priesthood or mercenary leader or invasion captain. Leading alone or do you have a staff or family? I suggest some kind of heir. Assassination, diease, starvation and death in battle can happen to a leader as well.)

Town Primary Occupation:

(might be simple as farming or creating soldiers for the empire or growing magic plants, fishing...whatever but the what the majority does for a living. Invading your purpose....Abduct and experiment on humans and take cows for food or begin a colony)

Town Secondary Occupation:

(next popular occupation....might be less popular but still your group can be known for it. Traders from Eporue might be great merchants but many know they are good musketeers that type of thing. Just because there are only to listed does it mean their is a limit but most towns have only a few industries to start)

List of Customs:

(This can be an interesting area and it tells you a lot about your groups background. Are you all warrior monks who brew beer? A group of all women samurai using fertility magic to make little girls and men are not around? Does a boy become a man only after he kills a troll? Does everyone in the group know how to throw a knife? Does every household have a shrine in their home? The list is endless (try not to go overboard..lol) but these customs give insite to your people. Also some customs should restrict as well as benefit people. A code of honor can be a bitch for example or having a child going to kill a wolf at a young age will make for a tough population but not as many adults)

Numbers of people and troops

This time around I will drawn numbers from someone's back story. Give me a background and idea to your lead character and people. Don't give actual numbers but I draw my conclusions from your writing. I will decide how many people and resources you have. I have a minium in mind but if you start with little I will present you with opportunities to grow quickly.

Location, location, location

You will all start fairly close to each other this time. You won't be battling or dealing with npcs under my control as much. You will meet talk and make agreements fight...whatever. Though I will control specific groups and the main factors while running things in the background.

Regular report

You will receiving one at the start of every turn noting key events. Everything from the birth of children to ship arrivals to people looking for work or to settle.

Okay, questions about technology is the next big thing for me. Your initial post talks about armored battle suits. So basically I am wondering what the peasants have and how advances are going to work.

Any how here is what I've got thus far.

Town: Monastery of Yoshiro

Political Leanings: The monastery formally lies with the theocracy faction, how ever the faction of princes are also in good terms with it. (See character Katala entry.) The remaining two factions see it as a minor nuisance.

Location: Coastal, south-east.

Ruling family: The current leader is Lee "One Wing" (M,) fallowed by Touji (M) and Katala (F.) The succession is fairly simple they choose a monastery student who then has the option of under taking the test of Ariet's needle, if they pass they are welcome into the ruling party, which never exceeds three. See characters and customs for more craziness.

Job 1: Religious magic training

Job 2: Martial Training (Most experienced students have some skill in both.)

Customs Secret of Ariet's needle; this involves shooting an alien life form into ones body. The pride of the temple for the last 150 years is an alien artifact, or rather an alien prison the size of a small jar. See Elan for more detail. Only the ruling party know about this. Other customs: Hair, all hair, must be shaved once a week. Tattooing is extremely common, the monastery tattoos are composed of only black lines. It is forbidden to wear black, sit facing south or east, or eat on the nights of full and new moons.

Training: There are three levels of training and three styles in each level. Each student picks one style for each level. Upon entering a student chooses to learn Martial training and meditation or Theology and magic. These people make the first level. Upon completing that they study the other field, this is the second level of training. The third level of training is mix between magic and martial arts. The Monastery work is divided based on training level, the first two levels do one type of work, the third level does another set and masters do the final set.

The martial styles: Leopard (little movement, mostly hand strikes and holds) Sparrow (Fast agile motion, kicking and staff fighting) Urchin (Stances and edged weapons)
The Magic styles: Phoenix (healing and fire) Griffin (travel and lighting) Titan (defensive and earth)
The Combined styles: among (enchanting), apart (summoning), with in (transformation)

Jobs: Level 1 and 2: Hunting, Fishing, farming, construction. Level 3: Smithing, cooking, maintenance, teaching level 1. Master: teaching level 2 and 3.

Elan: The basic Elan is composed of a handful of specialized cells, in a mass just barley big enough to be visible to the keen eye. At this level Elan aren't sentient, how ever oddly enough they have an innate connection to magic which they use for defense and healing. At some point these creature ended up in a humanoid of their home word. Strangely enough the body was an ideal habitat, and the Elan evolved a long magic conducting fiber, these fiber cells eventual started to attach the other Elan and eventual formed a brain like complex, at this stage they are sentient. Elan minds after a time eventual develop complex capable of sending magic signals to other Elan complexes outside the host body. The original host race gained numerous benefits from the Elan. A neighbor race eventual grew fearful of the Elan mind link, but they had long ago discarded the concept of genocide. The result was the Elan were filtered out of their hosts and imprisoned in a devices that would sustain several thousand members indefinitely, assuming the Elan continued to reproduce. Some how one such device made it to earth. The few freed Elan ended up in bodies by a strange twist of fate, and resumed sentience. Their main goal is to protect their prison and guard its secret so history doesn't repeat itself. The Elan has lost most of its power in their new hosts, there mind link only works to a radius of ten feet, and their magic only adds a slight toughness to the hosts body and quicker healing. Unknown to even their hosts they control about 60% of the hosts actions, and rule the monastery.

Characters
Lee "One Wing" is the current head of the ruling party. He is completely void of hair like all in the monastery, but his hair growth is blond before he shaves it. He is fit and fairly muscular but light, weighing only 160 lbs. His body seems to be at its peak health despite being 39. His style is leopard with in the phoenix. A common tattoo for the sparrow and phoenix styles in the monastery is a set of wings placed on ones back, Lee has the traditional tattoo but for some reason no talks about he only has one of the two wings, hence the name.

Touji "Bronze Will" is the oldest member of the ruling party at 59. This means he has already had his turn in command. At 67 many are surprised by his martial skill which remains far better then most, and his magic ability has perhaps gained strength with the extra time. His style is Urchin apart from the Titan. The name Iron Will is due to his stubborn nature and fondness for bronze on the battle field.

Katala is an oddity for the monastery because she is the daughter of the dead emperor. The emperor spread his daughters far and wide across the empire and by chance she was sent to the monastery. At the age of 19 she is the youngest even more surprising she joined the ruling party at 17, despite not having mastered her style of Sparrow among the Griffin. Shortly after entering the ruling party she mastered it and has added parts of the other styles to her abilities as well, showing the monastery she was wisely chosen.

Without going into great detial I like it....technology is out there waiting to be found otherwise typical late medieval techology. When you find some basic technology and find those who know how to work on it an produce it your area will advance readily.

Hmmm. I might be interested, but I would have to think some. Probably lean toward an invading alien culture...

Rengade....just for you to fill in the format.

Screech.....aliens that would be cool. Give it some thought and post when you have an idea. Good to hear from you..

Town or landing site name:
Cill Macduagh

Political Leanings:
They pretty much lean to themselves

Location:

north coastal

ill be playing as Danath Da'agret

Town Primary Occupation:
fighting

Town Secondary Occupation:

Technology (geared toward war)

List of Customs:

The path of the warrior
The path of the mage
The path of the priest
The path of the scientist
The path of the engineer
each path is divided into specific aspects a few of which will follow

warrior aspects

swordsman- focus on the art of the sword from huge zweihanders to the gladius
longswords to Dai-katanas

speaman- focusing on the art of polearms. Halberds, Naginata, Glaives, and the good old fashioned Spear just to name a few

Knight-focusing on riding, swords, lances and heavy armor, knights are Proud and mighty foes, and the image of the Knight with shining armor and a flashing sword is an image of the tuatha known by many

many more aspects will show up this is just a taste

mage aspects
Runic-focusing on the use of runes for magical effects

Wizard-focuses on learned spells to channel magical power, rely on their staves to gather magical energy and to focus their own

Battlemage-focuses on instinctual and mental control over magic not requiring staves, however their magic may be initially more powerful among novices, but a master wizard has a much higher magical potency then a master battlemage, due to the way they use magic and the focus they can put on it. a battlemage obviosly focuses more on physical battle then a wizard does, losing some magical edge

priest aspects
there are only two priestly aspects priest and warrior monk

priest-basic clergy, learn holy magic and rituals and scripture and suchlike

warrior monk-tuatha (both male and female-tho females are called nuns) who join a warrior monastery to learn the use of staves and barehanded fighting techniques and to refine their devotion to Cairn, the warrior god. They also learn how to channel their Ki to a variety of near-magical effects

scientists and engineer aspects revolve around the myriad sciences and technological things they do

The tuatha believe battle to be the ultimate glory, the most effective way of pleasing their gods. But they are a mournful people, having lost their home, they swore off high tech weaponry, swearing to fight only with magic and traditional weapons. They are known also for their beautiful epic ballads of great heroes and warriors and the things they did. and their songs of mourning for the loss of their home world

Numbers of people and troops

The Tuatha are a people in mourning. on their home planet Rath, half of the population succumbed to the sickness more abhorrent to the Tuatha culture then any other. Conversion. Missionaries from a group called the Collective converted over half of the tuatha people and all of their subservient Danaan. The result was a bloody civil war waged between the traditionalist Tuatha and the new wave Tuatha who wanted to rid the culture of their traditional paths and aspects, a change the traditionalist's believed would weaken and soften the Tuatha and lead them to decadence. The traditionalist's slaughtered many of their converted kin and eventually the converts unleashed powerful weaponry the decimated the people as a whole, as well as leaving Rath barren and shattered. In vengeance, the Traditonalists put the remnants of the convert Tuatha and the Danaan to the sword and boarded their ships to leave the blasted and ruined Rath, that once had been so beautiful and green. Singing songs of lamentation, for the fate of their people and world. Due to the Collective's pushing of the converts to strike the first blow in the civil war, the Tuatha have sworn a blood oath to one day find the collective. and to make the Stars Scream with their vengeance upon them

hows that

Okay so my next question, what are the common gods that the local folks worship.

I've had a brilliant idea for my invading aliens! I'm linking their appearance and wargear with traditional Chianese folklore Yokai (apparitions/spirits/demons). I'll have a proper sheet filled out soon for perusal and review

Here's what I got:

Town or landing site name:

Xang

Political Leanings:

Agressive toward native inhabitants. Neutral toward non-native inhabitants

Location:

Northern inland

Ruling Family:

The Warmaster Namageta (Yato-no-kami faction)
The council of Three (Yama-uba faction)

Town Primary Occupation:

pesant/conscript generation

Town Secondary Occupation:

Magical item enchanting

List of Customs:

Extremely heirarchichal society based around four factions. Each faction observes total obediance to the factions above them, and have varying amounts of autonomy. The general customs vary depending on each faction.

Jikininki - The lowest order. They are physically thin and resemble emaciated humanoids with wickedly sharp claws on both hands and three "glowing" eyes (eyes are photo-luminescent, reacting to focused light which generates the glow). Overall of low intelegence, they are primarilly used for labour tasks and as the bulk of the conscripted military. Due to their low weight and wiery muscles, they are quite fleet. They obey without question the orders of their superiors. They worship the Yato-no-kami as if they were living gods

Oni - Every one in a thousand Jikininki are taken at birth and inducted into the second class of citizen. As an Oni, they are trained in the arts of warfare and command, as well as being granted a partial education, enabling them to act as the direct leaders of the Jikininki. They test their martial prowess in duels with other Oni, leading them to be more powerfully built than the class they originated from. In addition to their schooling, they are gifted with finely crafted full-body armour, golden masks, and hand weapons (all enchanted when available). Due to their education, they do not see the Yato-no-kami as gods, but instead as the personification of Shnigami - the death-bringer god. As such, every month all Oni spend an entire day paying homage to them.

Yama-uba - an all-female caste who fulfil the role of preistesses of Shinigami, and over-generals of the armies. They are few in number, and have a similar appearance to the Jikininki except for the fine silken garments and lavish jewelry they always wear. They command great respect from the Oni, and outright adoration from the Jikininki. They have a full education, and are schooled in the magical arts (mostly offensive). They preside over all the festivities as a priority and, as such, when a festival is held, they often have to leave armies under the control of an Uno-Oni (the most skilled Oni at their disposal). They do not see the Yato-no-kami as any form of religeous icon, but rather as the unquestioned ruler of their lives. It is the Yama-uba who spread the belief that the Yato-no-kami are gods (or personifications thereof) to the lower castes.

Yama-no-kami - The undisputed ruling caste. Very few in number, they originally enslaved the Jikininki through the use of their wits so that they would have a fanatically loyal army who would never question their will. Unlike the Jikininki, Ona, and Yama-uba, they are lithe, and snake-like individuals, replesent in the finest garments, jewels, and ceremonial weaponry (often scythes or sicles). Not exceptionally strong, they have about the same physical strength as a man. They never leave the cities to go to war, trusting the Yama-uba to stir the hordes to fanatical fervour. Also, why should a living god sully themselves with such things...?

Numbers of people and troops

The Jikininki are a fast-breeding people who, instead of living in family units. Instead, those born on a particular day live together, and grow together, often cared for by an adult group chosen by the Yama-uba caste. They are not a long-lived people, reaching maturity within 5 years, and living for an average of only 20-30 years (excluding violent death). As the military forces are mostly made up of conscripts, most of the Jikininki can act as both basic soldiers and workers. Their equipment, however, is only basic, with ranged weaponry being for the sole use of the Yato-no-kami (with the exception of siege machinery) The Yama-uba, being self-schooled in the magical arts, have managed to extend their lives unnaturally, with the goal of becoming immortal. Their average age is determined only by the skill level of their magics.

Ok, hows that? I'm sure I can expand on anything if you need
