I have been a table game dealer for quite sometime now and there are a few things that i must get off my chest....
1 Stop thinking that we are cheating and setting the deck.
2 PLEASE stop whinning at the dealers, it only wants us to make you lose faster to get you off our table.
3 We are not your baby, sweetheart, honey, darling ect or expecially SHE we wear name tags please use it.
4 Tipping dealers when they give a good hand is great. that makes us want to pull great cards for you.
5 Note to #4 if trying to tip dealer with a buck, come on how much would you try for that. We dont make alot of money and we rely on our tips.
6 And players come on if we could set a deck wouldnt we set them and have our friends or family there winning.
7 Threating dealers will only have you removed from the casino.
These are just a few things thank you for taking the time to read them and please try to follow them

if i sounded a little rude please accept my appolgy.....some players are just plain rude. And some of you are the greatest. i cant name names but your the ones i smile for and try my best to help.

I can cheat at cards. I can deal from the bottom, I can stack the deck, and I can palm cards. I can even fool a camera. Once.

But dealers have several cameras, a pit boss, and dozens of people watching them every second, every deal. There are shoes and laborious shuffles to prevent counting, cribbing and stacking. Any real gambler knows it's impossible for a dealer to cheat. Does anyone really think you're cheating?

Now, I have a problem with "tips". You may not make much money, but you make more than a waitress who is tipped once, 15%, at the end of meal. Some dealers don't understand why they aren't tipped after every winning hand, and I don't understand the logic. The dealer, as you've pointed out, can't possiblly give me good cards, no matter how much she "wants" me to get them. So why should I tip for getting a winning hand? I'm not superstitious.

But I always tip when I leave the table, whether I've lost or not, and always in relation to the time I spent sitting.

Never have gambled, but should I ever I will be sure and keep those pointers in mind!
I was pretty clueless about most of it... admittedly so it is a good thing you said something?

On another note, did you know that you are supposed to tip housekeepers when you stay at a hotel/motel more than one night fro cleaning your room?

The best way is to leave a buck or two under one of the pillows. It is totally worth it b/c they will feel appreciated (they really were an important factor in the comfort of your stay!) and will remember (9 times out of 10) you should you ever be in the area again!
They work REALLY hard and their pay typically is aweful!
Thanks!

I understand your feelings. I don't feel that I've been rude as a player or ever considered a dealer cheating!

However a doll or sweetie might have slipped out and I promise to be much more respectful in the future. I'll still only tip when I win though...sorry.

Ok, Once again I have to be the bad guy here.....TIPPING..As I have said in past post I traveled quite a bit in my last job and think this is a BIG problem now that we pay a premuim price for food like dinners and hotel rooms etc. but yet doing get good service. You go to dinner and ask for water the almost always forget to bring it and ask for something done to a meal and once again many times it don't happen you get a look like it is alot of trouble to get folks to do there dam job. Hotel rooms are the same yes I do tip and well but I don't think I have to reward for bad service. A tip is exactly that a tip or bonus !! It means you don't automaticly get it!!
Ask someone from housekeeping to do something for you and you get looks from mostly girls who are in such a big hurry to get done and get out of there . I would spend 4 to 6 weeks at a time in hotels and I have found Not all to be bad, but most are.

There are good folks out there where they are dealers at the table or maid's or waiter's and do a great job !! I will say that but everwhere you look folks get an attuide when you ask them to do there job, look at fast food resturants there the worst...They can't change it to you get it the way we give it to you or too bad.

I went to a local sub shop the other day for lunch. I told the girl behind the counter I wanted the sub cold and she told me no problem and went on to say that it was great I told her when I did , I told her I always do tell when ordering and we had a long chat about letting someone know what you want......well the sub came out and she had put it in the oven.....Now this is why I get an attiude ....I have a bunch of stuiped folks that live around me or the Fucking world in coming to the end...I am convinced that folks just don't listen or just don't care but yet everone wants to make big bucks and aren't worth it.....

Now back to your post on tipping........

Thank you.....:D

thank you for tipping when you leave.......the waitresses at my casino make great tips....players seem to think that because there getting free drinks they should tip.....and not tip the person who just had to put up with there begging for a winning hand....i say why should we.
But I always tip when I leave the table, whether I've lost or not, and always in relation to the time I spent sitting.

I do tip house keeping....it seems when you know someone or you yourself rely on tips you seem to give them out. I tip gas attendants when they fill my tank. i leave the changewhen i but coffee and fastfood. I tip 15% at resturants when my husband and I go out to eat. Deliveries ect. I hope everyone does this...its great to see the smile on the faces when they receive it.

If have been to a casino as you stated so you know dealers can not rush to finish the job. We must at all times so respect and have a great attitude for the players we are afterall there entertainment. I can only count on one hand where a player has walked away from my table without a smile either up or down in luck. I joke and show that i am trying to help every player. I do not expect a tip everytime i deal do not get me wrong. I am just saying that it is great to receive them> HOw do you feel about bounses, A good slap on the back to tell you that you have done a great job.

A question...

This may sound like a no-brainer, but how do you tip at a blackjack table? I've never seen anyone at a table I was playing at do this, so I have no idea. I don't know if I would tip for winning hands but I would certainly tip upon leaving the table. The dealers in Reno aren't real receptive to questions like this, so any help here would be appreciated.

TIPS?

If I get good service I'll tip a waiter/waitress 20%, if I get shitty service I may leave a VERY small tip (like a dollar).

I'll tip a dealer IF I win. And I never thought of tipping the housekeeping staff but I now will start as they have a very tough job.

I take it you have never had a job where people tipped you Wiz?
Please please all I ask is for once to try putting yourself in someone else's shoes (not that you haven't tried that but I mean here in particular ;) )
Also, why they negative attitude?
Sure everyone has gotten shitty service but no offense, you sound really difficult to please and honestly just b/c that one patricular sub maker was "stupid" doesn't mean everyone in a job like that is.

I have never gotten "shitty" service from any maid in a hotel and no matter what you think their attitudes are, or whether or not they are in a hurry to leave (aren't we all at the end of a long day?) you can't blame them when there are people like you who look down upon them and "expect" them to bring you "world class" service when they are on fucking minimum wage!

Sorry to be an asshole, but I seriously get peeved at comments like that. I just think we need to understand what other people go through and what other people's positions are in life before we continue forth as a "me-first" society.

Blues: that is pretty much how I tip, and thanks for listening about the housekeeping! (am trying to spread the word! )
;)

Lethal: Awe, someone who understands about the smiling thing! There is hope!
;)

(Obviously I didn't take long to pop out this post and I truly am sorry if anyone, especially wiz. take it personally...in the end they are my opinions and mine alone and we are all entitled to those, thanks!)

I, personally, do not play cards because I have no card sense and find the games bewildering. If I did so, I would probably tip the dealer at the end of play.

I tip generously for good service -- housekeeping, wait staff, parking valets, bell staff.

I do not tip at all when the service is poor. In all fairness, that very seldom happens. When it does, though, I feel no compunction at all about leaving nothing.

Bigdog, you snap your fingers at the dealer, and if she's a woman, say, "Hey, sweet thing, lean forward!" Then you try to flip the chip between her breasts.

Actually, I think you leave the tip to the side of your bet...or is it in front? <frowns> I can't remember for sure. It's been a while since I've gambled.

You hand the dealer a chip and say, "This is for you". He/she will thank you, make sure the pit boss sees it, and put it in the box which he/she then shares with all the other dealers -- another reason I don't tip individual dealers since they all pool their tips anyway.

You can also place a bet for the dealer by placing the chip on the edge of your betting circle (before the cards are dealt, of course).

LOL@Whispersecret! That sounds like a recipe for a black eye!

Hotel rooms are the same yes I do tip and well but I don't think I have to reward for bad service. A tip is exactly that a tip or bonus !! It means you don't automaticly get it!!

No offense meant whatsoever, but I'll have to agree with Wizard and disagree with Jade here. I always tip, and I always tip well - mainly because employees of restaurants & hotels generally seem to think because I wear platform sneakers and a baby tee & I'm under 40 that I'm lost without my mommy and daddy and therefore unable to tip, so I like to tip them well so they'll treat the next young'uns to come through with a little respect.

However, on the few occasions where I've been treated with total and utter disrespect, I have punished through the tip - not by not tipping, 'cause that just looks like you forgot, but by tipping very very low to make the point. When Ms. Bitch Waitress ignores me the whole meal, doesn't get my order right, gives me absolute attitude when I ask for my check and then takes half an hour to get it to me, I don't throw a screaming fit, I don't demand to see the manager - I just leave a quarter on the table after a $60 meal.

I have friends who are waitresses, and they make damn good money. Yes, they have to work for it, as does anyone working on commission does (and it is, in a strange way, a commission job). I understand what you're saying, Jade, and I'm sure you've dealt with some real jerks who put you through hell and leave you a two-dollar tip. However, a tip is just that - a tip.

All I ask is for is the minimum of respect and attention. I don't demand subservience, I don't abuse my waiter/waitress/bellboy. I be the best customer I can be, and expect a similar effort in return. If I don't get it, the tip suffers. Sorry, but that's the breaks. There are many jobs in which you make a flat hourly rate. Many people thrive under the tip situation because they enjoy customer service (maybe not every day of their lives, but most of the time :) ). Personally I couldn't handle it - I'd throttle some asshole customer the very first night - but that's why I took lower-paying flat hourly jobs in my working life.

While we're on the subject of annoying practices... I have a bank card with a Visa symbol on it - effectively, a debit card that functions as a credit card as well. I use it to pay for nearly all my small expenses because 1) I hate carrying cash around, and 2) at the end of the month I have a writtern record of where my money goes. When Manu and I go out to eat or somewhere that accepts credit cards, I'll usually pay (his bank card is a debit-only card) because I like knowing how we spent our dough.

It's very annoying to both of us when a food service person assumes that he's going to pay and puts the check in front of him. First of all, he then has to pass it to me, which makes it look like either he's a slacker or I'm his sugar momma. Secondly, it's insulting to me. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. Waiters & Waitresses: Leave the check in the center of the table. that way, no one is offended or feels uncomfortable.

I've never tipped a dealer, but then I have never gambled. My frugal New England roots won't let me waste money that way.

As for tipping waitstaff, I am ashamed to say that when I was younger and on the prowl, I would tip based on the attractiveness of the waitress. Waiters were just out of luck. And that ploy never did help me get lucky!

LOL @ Whispersecret! That would be the exact moment my wife came over to hit me up for more money; she tends to use "Bobbitt" as a verb.

Thanks for the tip tips, Dixon. I didn't know about the dealers pooling, either. Now all I have to do is learn how to quit losing all my damn money.

Laurel,

As I said, I was sharing an opinion so of course I am not offended!

A couple of things to address however (since you know I can't possibly just leave things as they are ... ever it seems!)

Again, as I said to Wiz, I realize you have likely been stigmatized (and often from what I can gather) partly by your height, and possibly by the way you dress. That is completely "hellacious" as far as I am concerned and I agree that you tipping potential should not be judged based on factors which are external and stereotypical.
However, just b/c you have had these experiences does not mean that every time you go, you know what they are thinking about you. It is truly JUST as unfair for you to assume they are judging you as it is for you to be judging them! (does that make sense?)

Also, I never said that if you got the most unimaginably shitty service that you need to tip! I DO very much understand what "tip" means but having been on the other side I also know that many waitress do NOT make a lot of money. I am happy for your friends but on the average waitresses make less than minimum wage and most of their money needs to come from tips. All I was trying to say was that if they do their job decently, they deserve something for their service. They brought you your food, re-filled your drinks and swiped your credit card and often even prepare your dessert (sundaes etc. )... and weren't rude... that calls for something. That is what the tip is for. When you get take-out you don't have to tip b/c you aren't being "waited" upon. So whether or not you view them as "subservient" in a sense the customer is still in the "boss"-like position ... I hardly doubt we are doing them any favors.

I once worked at a 24 hour restaurant and waited on a table with 6 drunk men who pinched my ass all night long and made ludicrous cat-calls and left me one dollar! I was not a bitch waitress in fact I smiled and hoped against hope that in thier drunken state they would leave me a large bill, but they were rude and THEY were the assholes.
NOt saying you guys are asshole customers. In fact, I'll bet Laurel that you are a fabulous customer and really I don't think you disagree with me as much as you may think you do, perhaps you misunderstood my post or I just didn't think out my post enough when I originally wrote it and it was difficult to comprehend (always possible with my writing!)

I even, in hs worked at a Mcdonalds and it used to really peeve me when people would come in and over and over say, "now don't fuck up my such and such b/c when I went to the Mcdonalds in such and such place they put too much blah blah sauce or whatever." I was like, gosh aren't they even going to give me a chance to get this right? It is McDONALDS for chrissakes! I am NOT getting tipped, the pay is shitty and they KNOW I will replace it if it is wrong.

Of course I have been on both sides so I also know, again, what it is to have crappy service. However, I try not to let that cloud my judgement for times to come. (I am not saying your judgement is clouded of course Laurel!)
;)
I have also been a customer at Mcdonalds (which I no longer am for environmental reasons... another thread)... and have had several mishaps over the years! I once ordered a strawberry sundae with nuts and what I received was a medium strawberry shake with no lid (in the drivethru of course)... so I DO understand what shitty service is I don't condone that at all!

Okay (deep breath !) ... finally, I agree with you about where to leave the check. A few decades ago, it was rude NOT to leave it with the man, and so more often than not you will find older waitpersons leaving it with "him" and so PLEASE don't let that affect their tip b/c they think they are being polite/courteous. They really just don't understand. However, let it be known that it is always best to leave it in the center of the table. I used to sort of pause holding it and someone would usually grab it haha.

Yep, off to work now! Thanks for listening to my ranting.

tipping can be done by two ways. either you put the dealer in the game by placing a check by your money. or you just hand the dealer a check..this must be placed near the dealer. We are not alowed to be handed anything hand to hand.
