Danyelle felt embarrassed and shocked that somebody had witnessed, even if just from an auditory point of view, her little uprising. She had prided herself on covering the blemish that was her personal life all these years. Part of her had told her not to answer her phone when the name had popped up on her caller id, and yet she had. Swallowing, she brushed away her emotions. Inside of her, she flipped her switch…that switch that turned off her emotions and left behind a distant woman with no feelings towards the world.
“I’m fine.” Her tone had softened remarkably, but there was no warmth to it. Confiding in strangers, or anybody for that matter, was not her thing. His face seemed vaguely familiar, but she honestly could not place him. Nothing against him, but he was not one of the actors, and she could tell that by his demeanor.
The ice cream comment had taken her back, and could have almost made her smile. Almost. Lifting her eyebrow, she looked around slightly befuddled.
“Not to sound rude or anything, but who are you?” Shaking her head, she slid the cell phone into her back pocket, looking at him inquisitively. The idea of ice cream sounded rather good after a long drive, but she was a little hesitant to go with him. She didn’t know him, he didn’t look very familiar…at least, not familiar enough to place. The last thing she needed to deal with right now was some man trying to get laid because they assumed that’s all she ever wanted to do in life.
