Mr. Rosenstein, What Is the Crime?
By ANDREW C. MCCARTHY
September 8, 2018 6:30 AM

For precisely what federal crimes is the president of the United States under investigation by a special counsel appointed by the Justice Department?

It is intolerable that, after more than two years of digging — the 16-month Mueller probe having been preceded by the blatantly suspect labors of the Obama Justice Department and FBI — we still do not have an answer to that simple question.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein owes us an answer.

To my mind, he has owed us an answer from the beginning, meaning when he appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller on May 17, 2017. The regulations under which he made the appointment require (a) a factual basis for believing that a federal crime worthy of investigation or prosecution has been committed; (b) a conflict of interest so significant that the Justice Department is unable to investigate this suspected crime in the normal course; and (c) an articulation of the factual basis for the criminal investigation — i.e., the investigation of specified federal crimes — which shapes the boundaries of the special counsel’s jurisdiction.

This last provision is designed to prevent a special counsel’s investigation from becoming a fishing expedition — or what President Trump calls a “witch hunt,” what DAG Rosenstein more diplomatically disclaims as an “unguided missile,” and what Harvard’s Alan Dershowitz, invoking Lavrentiy Beria, Stalin’s secret-police chief, pans as the warped dictum, “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime.” In our country, the crime triggers the assignment of a prosecutor, not the other way around.

Mueller has been a little busy lately. I'm sure he'll get around to it soon.

So tell me, how do you keep an idiot in suspense?

Kerry had been telling the Iranians that Trump would be gone within a year. Whotgout question, Kerry violated the Logan Act.

The same people that wrongly claimed the Trump transition team violated the Logan act doesn't care that Kerry did.

Kerry has a long history of collusion With the Enemy going all the way back to Vietnam

Mueller is doing the investigating, and reports to Rosenstein. You and McCarthy are asking for second-hand news.

Quoted for stupid tranny derp.

You’d think, after Trump himself tweeted about it so many times, pundits would own up to the fact that Donald Trump, the person and the POTUS, is not the target of the investigation.

Felonious shitheadedness

Don't kid yourself.

Trump himself says he is not under investigation.

Is he wrong?

No, let me guess: he’s right, because he is not under a lawful investigation. But Mueller is quietly pursuing a covert investigation in violation of the law and Trump’s Constitutional rights. Right?

Although, honestly, I thought you’d be with the QAnons at this point, and think Mueller is secretly the good guy. Where one goes, we all go, or something like that but in broken English.

What comes first? Investigation or charges?

We'll wait.

Mueller is doing the investigating, and reports to Rosenstein. You and McCarthy are asking for second-hand news.

That's better than no news at all. We already knew witches fly on broomsticks and like to hang out with cats, preferably black.

Rosenstein owes no one an answer until the investigation is complete. Trump supporters have been howling the same refrain since this started: it's gone on to long! We need to know what you've found! Mueller is on a fishing expedition!

This investigation hasn't even reached the average (1,151 days or 3.1 years) for those done since Watergate. No investigation in the last 50 years has released any of it's findings until after it was complete. And ya'll didn't have a problem with Goudy and crew wandering off in search of an elicit email server kept by Hillary now did you? Personally I think that was appropriate, but for you it seems to be much like you're guy in the white house: use what we have to protect my side but employ it to screw everyone else.Transparent, idiotic and completely two faced FFS.

Of course you have no cite or fact to verify that and will when pressed resort to the Ishmaelian "you need to try to do the research to verify my point because I know it can't be proven" bullshit as always. And as always I'll say prove it, or STFU.

I seriously question what you are saying. First, most investigations didn't last that long and, second, details were released while they were in progress. Third, finding Silly Hilly's email server was no problem, because she told everybody its location.

Question it all you want but as far as the length of the investigation, take the time to look at the link I provided.
Edited to add: I decided to do it for you.

And if there were details released ,it wasn't done officially. If you believe it was it would be so kind of you to prove it.
As far as finding Hillary's email server that wasn't the point. It has been said by many here (and I believe you were one of them) that Mueller should be limited to looking into one thing and one thing only and should not be able to pursue other things he stumbles upon. If that's true for him it should have been true for Goudy and crew shouldn't it? Or are you too a signatory to the 'it's good for my side but not for your's mentality'?

I'm saying the time periods are not correct. It says Iran-Contra lasted about eight years, which, given the original date, would mean it extended into the Clinton administration. It says Whitewater, which was actually several inquiries, lasted into W's administration.

Some of the time frames are probably correct, but others are not even close.

ETA: Here are some more, including a few that were omitted. Some of them were quite brief:https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/////////shows/counsel/office/chart.html

The difference is, all of those were legitimately undertaken with specified statute violations of law to be investigated. The Mueller investigation was initiated in violation of DOJ rules without specifying any particular statute violation. It was an investigation looking for a crime. Like Andy said, this isn't how we do things in the United States of America.
