yeah... it's a terrible thing that people try to be sensitive to the feelings of others. what is that world coming to... we expect people to be NICE of all things...
i would like to say that as a member of the "don't use the word faggot as an insult" gang i never attacked anyone... but perhaps pablo is a bit sensitive and i need to be more careful of his feelings
i believe there is a difference between censorship and stating that you think something is wrong. to fall back on my tired issue of gay bashing, i think it is wrong to use faggot as an insult but i don't advocate removing all posts using the word. just as you are allowed to make offensive comments and tell us to fuck off, pablo, we are allowed to voice our opinions.

the fact of life is that whatever somebody does/ does not
believes/ says or whatever will upset somebody.
we cannot all get on in life trying to please everyone and it is impossible to do so .
many people on the board are hypocrites and i often play devils advocate to expose them . any word can be insulting if said in the wrong way , but some people choose to make a big issue out of certain terms or insults. faggot is not the worst of insults where i come from yet it offends many people on the board . words that some may seem as innocuous such as twat are deeply offensive in other parts of the world , to call someone a twat in london means nothing , yet to use the same expression in manchester is as offensive as calling somebody a cunt .
john mac enroe the ex tennis player got in trouble at wimbledon this year for making the comment about people sitting on their fannies . in england fanny means vagina . if you dont want to upset people then dont say anything at all

A lot of problems Americans have in this field is their adherence to being "politically correct".
We use the phrase in the UK but more of a joke than anything else.
If you try to be politically correct too much than all that results in is a tangled thought process and confusing posts as you try not to upset anyone.

I don't think the picture is funny. I don't think it is sad. It's just a picture of some woman.
I can see where someone would find it funny. It is not funny in a "ha ha" way, it is funny in a potty humor kind of way. Is it because the woman is fat? Well, yeah. Have you ever seen one of those calenders featuring extremely large women posing nude? This is the way I saw this picture, not as a picture of a woman who didn't know her picture would be passed around on the net. That doesn't mean that I, or anyone who thought it was funny thinks that fat people are gross or deserve to be laughed at. They don't. People who pose nude with the purpose of amusing people are doing it for a reason.
We don't know if that woman posed nude because she thought it was a private photo. Why assume that she did? Why can't we assume that she posed for it because she's an exhibitionist and thought it would be a great laugh to do so?
Is it Politically Correct for this to be funny? No. Of course it isn't. It also isn't PC to laugh at fat jokes, skinny jokes, eating disorder jokes, racial jokes, cultural jokes, and parodies of certain people. But it -is- funny. I find italian, irish and blonde jokes pretty damn funny. I love wop jokes. I love dago jokes. When I was scrawny as hell in high school, flat as a board and other skinny jokes were funny. -shrug-

There is a big difference between laughing with someone and laughing at them. One is demeaning the other human. Why not post pictures of obese men? Why is it always a woman. The impressions I get when I see something like this posted is not amusement it is a a reminder of the incredible bias directed at people who are different. It does not matter if she posed for it or not it is the intent of using a picture like this for a lame attempt at humor. Personally I think it is used all to often to boster a sagging ego. A sort of well I may be a few pounds overweight but "MY GOD I am better then THAT"!! I was teased about being skinny and I didn't find it funny. It embarassed me. This type of strand make me angry and I find it hostile.

I am one of the people that posted the pic some time ago, somebody actually left the board over it. (By the way, I've never seen anybody announce their departure from here and actually stay away, except one)
To tell you the truth, when I first saw this pic, it never occured to me that the woman depicted here wasn't posing for it. Like Angel said, there are lots of fat women calendars and greeting cards, and some of them are damn funny. Whether or not this woman posed willingly or not DOES make a difference if it's funny or cruel. I don't know for sure.
It was funny when I first saw it, now it's old hat.
Wanna laugh at some funny looking people? Pick up a church directory, I was looking at one today and laughing my ass off. Now I know where uglypeople.com gets their material. Maybe the politically correct thing to do would be to walk up to Elmer and politely tell him that his five dollar toupe' isn't fooling anyone.

I didn't expect this thread to turn into a debate but whilst were're on the subject my humour is no different to anyone elses. If I'm caught unawares and the humour is good I've been known to laugh at racist, religious, handicapped and other "non-politically correct" subjects. I've even been known to laugh at myself!
It's just the way humans are.
Unless you are so indoctrinated into giving every occasion for humour some deep, disseminating analysis that you have to tell yourself "Oh yeah. That's OK I can laugh at that one".
In which case humour doesn't come naturally to you and life without humour can be one helluva miserable place.
