The governor of Massachusetts has instructed clerks who register and store birth records to cross out the word "Father" and write in the words "Second Parent" for babies who are born into a lesbian marriage.
I guess some groups are upset about the cross-out because it makes the birth certificate questionable to passport agents, foreign governments etc.
A spokesman for the Governor responded by saying that it only affects a handful of cchildren: 61 in 2004, and 75 (so far) in 2005.
Is this just a hot summer day tempest or is this a real issue?
