I discovered a mishap after posting to this thread. I went to take the clothes out of the washer to put them in the dryer. There was a stack of what looked like carefully folded paper towels. Turns out they were dryer sheets. An almost full box of sheets had fallen into the washer. I laughed thinking about my grandmother who washed and reused disposable aluminum pie pans.

OK... this is bad...

We were on our way home from a road trip (impromptu) and an accident happened in front of us on the interstate. Of course we stopped to help but still, in the end, two people died (the guy laying on the side of the road was ejected and so I knew when we stopped, he was gone, sure enough, I took his pulse and he was dead).

Another guy in the ravine also died from being ejected so all we could do was help the other 2 occupants on the car and keep them calm until help arrived (we had more spectators than helpers, I was the only nurse on scene and had instructed hubby and a trucker to keep people away from the bodies because people actually only stopped to get a picture of the bodies).

It was an awful ending to an out-of-the-blue road trip.

I was in college when seat belt laws were enacted. People didn't want the government telling them they had to wear a seat belt. It's hard to believe that nearly 50 years later people don't buckle up.

I thought the same thing. I don't understand that mentality. They'd probably be upset if they saw pictures of their children or parents dead on the side of the road.

So yesterday I'm driving from Oregon to SF Bay Area in California. About half way there I stop at a rest stop. I use the facilities and its pouring rain. I look there is a pet area right next to where I'm parked so ok...let them out too. I get the first dog out. All good. Go to get second dog and Dog #1 decides to take off to who knows where and knocks me off my feet and slams me into the wheel of my car. Of course I'm wearing white and light grey. So now I'm decorated with a perfect oil and dirt encrusted tire print on my white shirt and my entire left side is filthy. Dog #2 is out of the car and just standing there peacefully as I'm trying to keep ahold of 2 dogs and get my ass off slippery wet and oily parking lot.....when all of the sudden Dog #1 decides to take off again and you guessed it. I'm in the ground again. I hiss out something vile that I dont even remember and Dog #1 is now low crawling in my direction in abject apology. ( did I mention this is the same dog that ate my sandwich today)? We go for a walk get back in car without incident and it's now stopped raining.

Years ago a man was killed while talking on his phone. I think he drove under the back of a truck. He was cut in half. Pictures found their way to the Internet. I saved them in a folder in a folder in a folder. It wasn't something I wanted to view constantly. They were beyond gruesome. I did however, send them to people who talked (there was no texting at the time) while driving.
