Has anyone been watching the Ken Burn's Jazz documentary? Even if you don't dig that scene, it is fascinating to see the development of modern music and culture. It's also amazing how constant rthe generation gap has always been.

I have been taping the shows but I have not had a chance to watch it. Your description has made it sound interesting.

I'm an admirer of Burn's anyway, and I find it interesting that his American Trilogy goes from the Civil War to Baseball to Jazz. Then again, as far as race relations and American culture goes, his investigation is logical.

I can't wait to here what you think of it once you watch it. I think it's incredible.

Happy Birthday, Max Roach!

I have seen some of it and it is interesting but probably more in depth than I care to go.

But I do have a decent jazz joke: Back in 1992, Tabitha Soren of MTV was trying to be a political reporter. She interviewed Bill Clinton and asked Bill who were his favorite musicians. Bill included Thelonius Monk among his selections.

When the interview was over, Tabitha asked Willie, "Who's The Loneliest Monk?"

Wha wha WHAT????

This is why I don't watch Mtv. And she was a MUSIC reporter? Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't rock-n-roll come from jazz?

Excuse me, I must vomit and bemoan my generation.
