I've just mentioned in another thread, maybe two, that I like getting tattoos because I like the way it feels.
Now, I don't have a lot of them, and the ones I have are small-ish, but meaningful to me. And I will get at least two more this year. The most recent ones are on my forearms, and those were the ones I'm talking about ... where I like the pain.
But on Friday, not only did I get a new on on my wrist, I also got one covered that is on my foot.
Backstory: When I was 20 or so I went into a large tattoo shop in Chicago, to get my second tattoo. I wanted something specific, based on a pendant I had of a scarab. Well, the guys in the shop bullied me into just picking something off the wall. I got it on the inside of my heel, just under the ankle bone. It was just an outline, but I remember it being painful, but not too horrible.
So I've always hated it, because for one, it's an ugly tattoo, and for two, it reminds me of how I let those jerks bully me. So I finally decided to get it covered with something else.
My lovely tattoo artist made up a cute image of a Tim Burton-esque skull with flower petals behind it. But ... she had to use a lot of color to make sure the other tattoo was completely covered.
HOLY SWEET ZOMBIE SMOKING BABY JESUS! That fucking hurt! And not at all in a good way!
I was literally pulling my own hair to refocus myself and get away from the pain. My leg kept involuntarily jumping on the table. I was doing deep breathing like I was delivering a fricking baby.
I mean. Wow. That was painful!
If you can avoid it, people, do not get a really colorful, filled in tattoo on the inside of your heel, just under your ankle bone. Unless you are much more of a badass than I am.
