And as a bonus, they might actually learn something!

I was in the store the other day (ok, like 3 months ago) and stumbled across "Disney Presents Schoolhouse Rock (30th Anniversary Edition)", a DVD (or VHS for all the neanderthals) that contains EVERY single vignette.

So of course, I bought it out of nostalgia.

Well, Wynken and Blynken came in while I was watching it and sat enraptured through most of the shorts. And now, they ask to watch The Rabbit (Lucky N. 7), The Space Ship (Interplanet Janet), The Train (Conjunction Junction) and several others daily!

I know they are two young to "get it" yet, but I would much rather them watch these cartoons than some of the other garbage they've been polluting their mind with.

No, they pick up on it! Swear. Watching my little one grow. She gets unlimited access to things like that and already is somewhat tri-lingual, works on writing ever day, works on art every day, works on math every day because she wants to (just turned 4) and thinks it's play, funtime...

You keep showing them those shows!

It sinks in. Fawking Sponges! You forget what it's like to be so smart, to learn that quickly... I feel dumber everyday. No wonder they are so arrogant by the time they become teens!

Nice to have an adult around to talk to :D . Good Morning!

Seriously, don't underestimate the capacity of a toddler's brain. Language acquisition happens at an indescribable rate in the first two years of a child's life. Anything you put in their heads will stick there. I was able to read by age two because my parents were enthusiastic about exposing me to written and spoken language. There's no reason at all to wait until the brain's development has slowed; give them access to all the information you possibly can. The will learn osmotically, and even material that you might think to be too complex will make a positive impression.

Any of you ever try to shorten a book? You know what I mean, skip bits and pieces.... not allowed.
Nope. The little buggers have it memorized. Dang it....

Great Bob, now conjunction function will be running through my head all day, and I don't even remember what one is.

I'm just a bill

Yes I'm only a bill

And I'm stuck up here on Capital Hill

~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the inside of my head.
Ahem.
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hookin' up words and phrases and clauses
Conjunction junction, how's that function?
I got three favorite cars
That get most of my job done
Conjunction junction what's their function?
I got AND, BUT n' OR, they get you pretty far
Spoken:
AND, that's an addative, like this AND that.
BUT - well, that's sort of the opposite.
Not this, BUT that.
And then there's OR, O-R.
When you got a choice like this or that.
AND, BUT, and OR, they get you pretty far!
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hookin' up two box cars and making 'em run right
Milk and honey, bread and butter, peas and rice,
Hey that's nice
Dirty but happy, diggin' and scratchin',
losin' your shoe and a button or two
He was poor but honest, sad but true
Boo hoo, hoo hoo, hoo!
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hookin' up two cars to one
When you got something like this choice:
Either now or later
Or no choice:
Neither now nor ever!
Hey that's clever!
Eat this or that, grow thin or fat
I bet you now I'm too skinny as it is!
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hookin' up phrases and clauses that balance like:
Out of the fryin' pan and into the fire
He cut loose the sandbags
but the balloon wouldn't go any higher
(yeah) Let's go up to the mountains,
or down to the seas
You should always say thank you
or at least say please.
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hookin' up words and phrases and clauses
in complex sentences like:
Spoken:
In the morning, when I'm usually wide awake,
I love to take a walk through the gardens and down by the lake
Where I often see a duck and a drake,
and I ask myself as I walk by
Just what they'd say if they could speak,
Although I know that that's an absurd thought.
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
Hookin' up words and phrases and clauses
Conjunction junction, hows that function?
I like tyin' up two cars and makin 'em run right
Conjunction junction, what's your function?
I'm gonna get you there if you're very careful...
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah
Conjunction junction
Conjunction junction
Conjunction junction
Conjunction junction
Conjunction junction
Conjunction junction
Ooh yeah
I will pick up a copy on both VHS and DVD to send to my little ones, too far away. Maybe I can swing it next paycheck. I loved schoolhouse rock.
akkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.....
Bob, with that sexy av and you singing that hot song, I am all mush now.
Gadzooks man. What are you trying to do to me?
Teach me?
Now I would have listened better in school if my teacher had dressed like you.
On second thought, remembering my teachers. Nevermind.
Have you seen the Johnny Bravo version about sensitivity?
They run it on the Cartoon channel as a bump. It is hilarious. :)
Sounds like an addition to my Christmas shopping list. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
I bough the same set of DVDs... My only old child is 18 years old.. It's unlikely she'll ever see them though :)
I got the DVD at Target yesterday- $19.99 It is the complete version of every song. The VHS version I saw had only the top 25 songs and was about one third the length of the DVD in terms of time.
This $19.99 purchase will be returned to Target.
I found it at the Disney Store at the Mall yesterday on sale for $10! I bought two DVDs for little relatives who will love it in their Christmas stockings.
