If its a frequent (daily) practice you run the risk of washing out the 'good bacteria' that lives there and helps to break down some foods that the body is unable to break down on its own. The occasional enema done with clean water isn't generally considered to be harmful.

For what it's worth, the method you describe is also my preferred method and generally speaking gets the job done pretty well.

We never use lube--usually I've been sucking his cock before he puts it in my ass; or he spits on it. And I agree with some of other comments about enemas; I like the feel of the warm water, but my body just doesn't like enemas. Instead I just make sure I've gone to the bathroom a while before, and wash up with gentle soap. Sorry I meant not artificial lube. A bit of spit or my own juices do the trick. Some positions are also easier than other.
