Part of an ongoing task from my Sir is to purchase and use an anal plug at his direction.

The question I have is two fold.

1) How does one pick an anal plug, particularly one that would be practical enough to wear out of the house?

2)How long can a person wear a plug at a given time before there is permanent negative changes to the sphincter muscle? (Someone IRL had mentioned to possibility of this happening a few years back.)

And if anyone has advice in general for anal prep/play it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help,

Just go to the local adult store and look for one that turns you on. One that looks like you can comfortably wear it, but be very aware of while you wear it. It sounds like your D didn't give you very much direction on this, perhpas you should ask him/her what they had in mind for you? Enjoy!

1.) In my opinion, there is no such thing as a comfortable butt plug. I can wear beads fine, even the ones that are one molded silicone "string," but plugs are just uncomfortable. I have yet to find one that's small enough around the neck to not cause painful chafing after just a few minutes. But judging by the number who DO like them, I'd say I'm an oddity.

2.) I wouldn't think *wearing* a plug would be that big a deal. I'd think your permanent negative changes would come from the sphincter being torn or split, not stretched. You know, like every other muscle, basically.

My Sir told me what attributes he requires for his intended goal then left the rest up to me. Unfortunately, I'm rather inexperienced with back door dealings - beyond what was gleaned through conversation at the smoking table in college. (FAFSA still doesn't realize some of the things they paid me to learn.)

Thank you. That's a bit more comforting than some of the horror stories I've seen online and heard through some less than accurate IRL sources (who tend to be right only at the most inconvenient of times). I just wasn't sure if there was some kind of rule about wearing them to start with.

There are a few kits on the market with different sizes to work up too. If cost isn't a major concern look for higher quality materials. I've seen some rubber ones that where filled in from the base to give it rigidity, then the injection separated creating a hygienic hazard.

So that really leads in considering the material it is made out of. Rubber, silicon, and stainless steel are probably the main materials I'd consider. As you probably know the type of material it is made out of impacts the types of lube that are suitable, especially with silicon.

Shape is a factor as well. Look for anatomically shaped ones. The straight ones that flare are not going to 'sit' well for long term comfort. Straight plugs are fun for bedroom play, but are not for going out on the town. Do a little research and you will find various shapes and sizes. Oh and be damned sure to get a real plug because a dildo is no substitute as it can be over inserted and go missing up the ass (true story: happened to a friend of mine - her and her lover where inexperienced).

One thing to consider is lube, some lubes for some people may cause irritation problems for extended insertion times. Just be cognizant of that, perhaps a practice season at home first to see if there are any issue would be helpful. Just wear it around the house in the evening, get use to the feel and enjoy it - I'd recommend house work or something that requires bending and lifting for extra fun!

Of course size matters. To thin and likely you will squeeze the thing out, especially if you sneeze or laugh hard. Something medium size is likely to work perfectly as something in the large category would likely make you feel to full after a longer period of time.

Personally I'd recommend the njoy line http://www.freddyandeddy.com/productreviews/dildos/njoy2.0productreview.htm google around for different styles and prices... and yes they are deliciously fun. Yes I like the metal for hygiene reasons, no worries about selecting a lube (in fact the smoothness of it helps minimize the quantity need for insertion), temperature play is an option, and the shear fact that it has weight that you can feel insures you won't be forgetting it is there. But those are my opinion.

As far as overall comfort, the size, shape material, lube and plain experience or practice all play a roll. So practicing with it will let you know your comfort level and how long you can go.

I actually don't think you'd have any issues with a reasonably sized plug for 2-6 hours as long as you don't have any digestive issues during that time.

Hope this helps...

Have fun and good luck!

EDIT for typos and clarification - i need to proofread lol

I don't have much advice to add, except a brief experience. When I purchased a butt plug, I was looking for something inexpensive and small. I found a slim straight one for less than ten bucks that has been lots of fun the few times I've used it.

I wore the plug one day to work for several hours and it was fine but not designed for wearing for extended periods. It kept slipping out and was slightly bent at the end of the day from my sitting on it. I enjoyed it nonetheless. :D

For extended wear, definitely stay away from the straight ones and look for something designed to stay in with movement. Finding time to adjust your plug in the middle of the work day can be difficult indeed. ;) Keep the lube with you during the day should it slip out and you need to reinsert it. I prefer a water-based lube because it feels comfortable and there's less worry about it wearing down toy materials. As for long-term effects of extended wear, I can't comment on that because I've only done it one time. But I can almost guarantee that an internet search will yield plenty of personal accounts of it. :D

For some interesting butt jewelry, check out this site:

Julian Snelling

But be forewarned, the small ones can get "lost" a little too easily. I would go for one that has a larger flange around the part which is supposed to stay outside of the body, so it can't slip in.

Have you done any form of anal play before?

If not then going out and just buying a butt plug isn't the best way to go.

If you're a newbie to it, then you need to buy a small one and get yourself used to it before moving onto a bigger one.

The tristan plugs by vixen (I think) will generally stay put and are, supposedly, fairly comfortable. However, as ZRT said, I don't think I'd dive headlong into extended wear - your Top may be setting you up to fail if that's the expectation.

Oh, IME, lube and "staying in" are simply not compatible. A very very SLOW easing in of an unlubed plug will help immensely in the stay put factor.

I've not done any anal play before, no, but Sir has me practicing daily. That's one of the reasons that I was asking about the plugs. He wants me to start with something fairly small and he wants it to be something that's eventually wearable in town, but those are his only hard requirements.

I tried looking online with an eye towards actually wearing it and... yeah.

ETA: Sir is also very aware of the slowness of the process and has had to slow me down when I get impatient.

The one I linked to above is really comfortable and not big at all. Actually, I would have preferred a larger size, but I'm quite content with it.

That is the same size as my first one. That said, I started off with anal beads for a few weeks then moved onto the buttplug.

I'm still not completely trained anally.

That's about the same size as I'm working on atm but I've not yet managed bigger.

I've been wearing some sort of anal toy for about 8 hours every Tuesday since I have been collared (about 4.5 years)

It took me about 6 months of testing different products to see what worked best for me. My PYL's requirements are that I wear something in my ass for at least 8 hrs, it did not necessarily have to be a traditional buttplug.

I started with the small jelly plugs for a hour or so at a time.

Some things that I have learned--

Material- The plugs I use for long term wear are either 100% silicone or metal. I use a condom with the others. Silicone and metal clean very easily and completely. Using jelly plugs without a condom over it will degrade and or start to permanently absorb smells.

Size- The plug I use the most is a cross between a plug and a anal bead type stalk. It is about 4 inches long and 100% silicone with 3 bumps close together on it. It also has about a 1 inch stalk between the last bump and the hour-glass base.

You need to keep in mind that for a plug/toy to stay in it need to have the bulbous portion on the inside of the inner sphincter muscle. That way the muscle can tighten and prevent it from falling out.

I have tried one of the tristan plugs that Netz talked about. I love the hour-glass base which is a must have, but it did have a tendency to fall out. Not as bad as some other but it would when I moved around alot. Great plug for shorter term wear or I wear it when I am just going to be around the house.

I have also tried the smaller jeweled metal ones. I like the feel of the metal and the very small stalk. But it too would fall out. I think I needed a bigger one. I would like to try a njoy. I have heard very good things about it's use for long term wear.

With size..I would recommend going as big as you think you could handle when it time for all day use. The bigger ones stay in much better.

Other toys--There are some Tuesdays when I know my digestive system just isn't going to be able to handle my usual plug. On these day I wear either a set of metal balls on a string (inside of a condom for easy cleaning) or a small jelly vib on a string (again in a condom, without the vib turned on) The reason for this is satisfies his requirement for something in my ass but I can put it in and not feel it as much as the other. I also do this if I know work will be especially busy or I absolutely can not be distracted.

I also have a cat tail that I made using a vaginal electrical plug used for biofeedback. I wear it around the house when I am off Tuesdays. I have a 11" long silicone anal beads on a flexible stalk too that I wear around the house sometimes. (there are some fun games we play with that :) )

Other bits of advice--Don't wear a plug out of the house until you have worn it around the house for a while. Move around, bend, twist, turn etc to test it at home to make sure it won't fall out.

--Always wear panties on plug days, just in case of fall out.

--Bring a zip-lock bag, lube, wipes and Purell in your purse if you leave the house with a plug in, again just in case.

As far as damage to the sphincter. I haven't noticed any problems. As a matter of fact I find there is a benefit. When I have the plug in I tend to do anal kegels on it. It is as healthy to do anal kegels as it is to do vaginal kegels. Keep that pelvic floor healthy and strong.

Not necessarily informative, but...

I don't have a lot of experience with wearing butt plugs - of any size - for extended periods of time. My best experience was with a 3" plug for no longer than 2 hours.

I do have a lifetime of experience with plugs, dildos etc. Many of them have been over 4" in diameter.

If you're young, you will probably not experience many problems; skin, muscles etc bounce back. If you do it over a lifetime - as I have - there will be, in later life, some consequences.

Choose.

There's lots of good advice here already on types of plugs and other issues, so I might focus in on the prep side of things.

I'm not entirely certain of your particular dynamic, but if the opportunity is there, do some self exploring as well, without your PYL's immediate guidance. I did, and found that it actually gave me considerably more confidence with it.

Sometimes, going at *your* pace, and exploring things for yourself can often be more comfortable and make things a bit easier, without the added pressure of pleasing someone with your efforts. And really, no matter how much guidance and support you have, only *you* know how something is feeling, and whether that's good, bad or otherwise.

i like a plug that stays in needs a nice wide base and a long thin part between the head and the base she your ass closes arround it and it does not fall out at the wrong time he hehhe

Plugs:

I have several and they are all comfortable. I am able to wear anyone of mine for several hours. With some removeal and reappling of lube. Depending on what you do for the most part they will stay put, but just becareful of the bending over.

I wouldn't waste money of those rosebud ones there too expendsive. And can be very heavy for a first timer to use. Since they are made of metal, the ones sold in most adult stores and any adult website will do. Check out my thread on any of the plugs I have some of them will do just fine.
