First, moisten your finger and rub the anal ring in a circular motion. Many, many people prefer stimulating the anus like this rather than actual penetration. You need to know if he actually wants your finger(s) to enter his anus before you go farther.

All in all, it really depends on him and what he likes. All of your suggestions are good ones, but you need to find out if that's what he wants. If he's not sure, than a little experimentation is in order. In that case, watch him and ask him whether he likes this or that and how you could do it best for him.
