I have been dealing with it for about 2 months, thinking it will go away. Before i go to the Dr. I want to try over the counter remedy.

Any advice?

I had one many years ago and used polysporin on it until it healed. Seemed to heal fine.

Not to hijack your thread, I have never heard of an "anal fissure".

What is it?

After every bowel movement clean yourself with mild soap, like Ivory, and water. Then completely dry before dressing again. Always put clean underwear on afterwards. If you don’t wear underwear, do so until it heals. Avoid scented or liquid soaps which contain chemicals that could irritate the wound.

I was unfortunate enough to develop an anal fissure after hip replacement surgery... the opiates that I received post-op constipated me, and I wouldn't be released from hospital until I'd had a bm. I finally did manage one, but it resulted in the fissure. My family doctor prescribed a cream to be injected into my anus each night before bed... it worked amazingly well, very quickly... thank God!

Actually that is exactly how it happened with me. Started with my hip replacement. I guess that was a minor tear. Then 2 years later I had shoulder surgery and here I am..
Do you remember what you were prescribed?

Thank you both. I appreciate the help/suggestions

I'm afraid that I do not remember the specific lotion, as it happened 4 years ago... but I do remember that it contained a quite powerful steroid... wish that I could be more helpful

Forces of nature

I got this on Amazon and it stopped the bleeding. There is still some discomfort when extracting. The discomfort is getting less.

Thanks everyone for the info.

milk of magnesia

Hello,
Went to the Dr. He said to take milk of magnesia before bed. Do this for about 2 months. He wanted the stool soft so the sphincter could relax and heal. I take about 15ml. Adjust to get pudding like consistency

Cost me $30 for this advice. Hope this can help someone else

Rather than MOM eat Bran daily for breakfast and more fiber in your meals. Too much MOM and your bowels may become more dependent on the laxative. If stool is still too hard add Metamucil toff the added fiber which will give the benefit of lowering your cholesterol.

follow-up on post

I am only to do this for 2 months. Then another check-up. I assume it is so it can have time to fully heal

I will stop MOM after the 2 months. hopefully wont become dependent

Thanks for the other suggestions
