FYI - Martini's over at the Ritz (nearly across the streat from me now) are going for $11.50 a pop. Yipes! But the view - oh the ladies - you do think you're in a Bond flick. Trouble is unless you're a succssful stock broker in a $1K suit and Armani shoes - with a $500 room upstairs - well you can pretty much forget about it.

Actually, I'm partial to gin--make it Bombay, please, and dampish...


When I tended bar, many moons ago, we had an old stainless steel shaker--add your gin, vermouth, ice, then stir/shake until a frost forms on the outside of the shaker, strain into a proper stemmed martini glass over an olive and a cocktail onion...

And then, there was this wonderful old bar in New Orleans--the Pink Flamingo (I shit you not)--where they served a drink called Willie's Wet Dream: 4 shots o' gin (Tangueray, Bombay, Boodles, Beefeaters), vermouth optional, served in a brandy snifter the size of a goldfish bowl, with an assortment of pickled stuff (olives, onions, peppers, green beans, etc). Ohhh, buddy...

Flamingo, you've gone and flung a cravin' on me--I'm off to find some of those olives...
