Let's hope it's an omen - Europe won the first hole in the first match.

well, i can't agree with that sentiment but i'm glad you're interested. No tv here until 8 a.m. We'll see it all but it will be on tape.

You can follow the progress on www.bbc.co.uk

All the matches are reported on as each shot is played.

Well thank you very much Gord...........it's rough enough with exactly 2 hours and 47 minutes left, I certainly don't need your "help".

well I am restraining myself from posting a hole by hole commentry !!

But is very exciting so far - as we new it would be - form means nothing in this compt

GO EUROPE

well, i suppose that i should be happy w/the way things ended up today, especially considering the fact that it could have been so much worse. But i'm not happy. Some of the crap that i saw out of the u.s. side today was inexcusable. You cannot count on blowing europe away in singles every year. How about stepping up and acting like you got some pride!

Duval and Love getting blown away in Best Ball? That's ridiculous. C'mon guys. step it up!

Not to mention Eldrick missing 3 and 4 footers for par.

I have come to the conclusion that "eldrick" just isn't going to be able to get it done this week. In 6 years as a pro, i have NEVER seen him putt this poorly. I've already quit agonizing over his game and moved on to folks i think still have a shot. Woods and Love play together tomorrow afternoon, hell the way they've both been going that could be a 6&5 loss for the u.s. I'm getting to the point in these Ryder Cup matches where i'd almost rather see us win some of the team matches than take the whole Cup. I know that's ridiculous but I've seen us win the Cup before, hell we have it now. What i've never seen is us perform even respectably in the team matches and I'm really getting sick of watching Europe beat up on us for 2 days every 2 years, no matter what happens on Sunday.

Yep, I know what ya mean. It seems the Europeans are just so much more relaxed in that situation, whereas the American players are all uptight and spastic. I don't know what the answer is. Sometimes I wonder about the pairings though. If it were me, I'd try having the best players play together. I know Phil and Tiger aren't buddies, but they'd be tough to beat as a team.

well but they've tried that, too. at brookline duval and woods played together when they were unquestionably 1&2 in the world, and they lost. This time, it looks like captain strange has opted for matching symbiotic styles, more than personalities or power rankings. Thus the ultra-agressive mickelson plays with steady eddie toms. That sort of thing.

i watched some of it today i didn't realize that tiger woods sucks at the ryder cup

by way i once held the ryder cup the real one ... how cool is that ? :)

A thread after my own heart......

Nice to see some fellow golfers at lit. Yes, I am watching it now.

i didnt win it or anything :) but my father used to work at a private golf course as head steward and the ryder cup gets shown at various golf courses around country i guess so i got to hold it then and have a picture of it somewhere with me and my sister holding it i was pretty young though

You HELD the Ryder cup? That is very cool actually.

that IS cool. I'd have to say the Stanley Cup is the one I'd most like to hoist but the Ryder Cup is pretty cool, too.

I think we need a new thread, "post which famous cup you'd most like to hold."

On second thought, scratch that. Bad idea around here.:)

All the US has to do is keep it reasonably close till the single matches.

Did I miss something???

Europe is ahead and their short game, especially putting, was phenominal (I don't care what the spelling buddy says), and your bitching and moaning?

Maybe I read this wrong but why can't the US leave it up to the singles? As a supporter of the US side of the Ryder Cup I felt like we were damn lucky and if they play like this every day their fucked, the Cup goes to the Euro's

USA team

I think the poor showing of the Americans has a lot to do with the different tours.

The Americans just go from tournament to tournament, playing primarily in similar conditions (weather, course, etc)

The European players are a little tougher mentally, I think. They fly all over hell, and have to play in a lot of different conditions. I think that makes them a tougher team.

My two cents, for what it is worth.
