An Odd Turn of Events (Slightly Political)

Not really. 5% chose him. That's lower than his approval ratings. And the guy still got, and will probably always have, some true hard-core fans.

It's not so mystifying if you consider who the other choices were. This was multiple choice. It wasn't fill-in-the-blank which might have given us a better 2nd choice ;)

From CNN: "A new national poll suggests that three out of four Americans feel President Bush's departure from office is coming not a moment too soon. Seventy-five percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Friday said they're glad Bush is going; 23 percent indicated they'll miss him."

Responses also depend on how they frame the question. As in, lead you to the response they want.

...23 percent indicated they'll miss him."

I'm surprised that many people will admit to being bad shots. :p

GWB doesn't get any kind of pass from me because his vice president was pulling his strings; Truman may have taken his sign with him when he left, but the buck still stops at the Oval Office whether the sign is there or not.

Are you sure about that? There's nothing in the article to that effect. Do you know who the other choices were?

I would have expected Obama to come in #1, and I would also have expected McCain to come in better than he did.

And his approval rating is how much higher than the thundering herd of dumbass called Congress?

Jesus H. Christ. Everyone hated Truman and now he's everyone's darling. Ditto for Lincoln.

Actually, you're right. Mea culpa there. Re-reading the article it doesn't say that it was multiple choice. I'm assuming it was as these polls often are--but this just makes me more suspicious. How was this poll conducted? WAS it fill-in-the-blank or was it multiple choice? Were McCain and the rest choices or did people name them?

Reconciling Bush as "2nd most admired" against 75% being glad to see him go would be easier to do if we understood how these polls were conducted.

As we witnessed with the shoe-throwing incident, Bush is very good at dodging. I think the 23% might be right that he's too fast for them to hit.
