I show up for work this morning and walk into the intersection of Drama Blvd and You gottabeshittingme Lane.

Its starts out with two of the R.N.'s squabbling with each other over their patients. One had worked with the patients on Thursday and the other on Friday. They both wanted these patients again. Doors were lsammed and epithets hurled. I sat back and enjoyed the show while shaking my head.

I set up the assignments for myself and the other Aide. I split the work evenly and even manage to set it up so neither of us is treking all over the place. (We'll both have 13 patients.) She lks in and throws a screeching fit about how unfair I am being and how she isn't going to take it any more. I'm being racist and every other "ist" you can think of. I tell her fine, she can now make the assignments. She grins and does so and I find myself running all over the place. She has picked and chosen her patients, making sure I have every one of the total care and Post Operative Patients. I also have three extra patients. (I have 16 and she has ten.) Of my patients 10 are total care and the others are Post Operative. I don't say a thing but the R.N.'s do notice.

Then comes the best part. A little after noon the boss shows up to do some paperwork. She calls me to the Nurses Station and tells me there is a Dinner being held for the C.E.O. and she wants me to make not one but three of my special Beef Roasts. She wants these done by Wednesday. I stand there for a minute while waiting for her to tell me how she's going to work the repayment when she asks me why I'm still standing there. I tell her what I'm waiting for and she looks at me in shock.

Okay, I ask a couple of questions to clarify things and then I tell her it's not going to happen.

She wants me to go out and buy three large extra lean Beef Roasts as well as the ingredients for the marinade. She then wants me to bring these home and marinate them for 24 hours before slow cooking/smoking them. I am then to bring these in to work and hand them over to her so she can tell the C.E.O. that these are a gift from my unit.

In other words I would be out over $50.00 so she could make herself look good. Like I said I told her it wasn't going to happen.

I was told I was being ungrateful. I wasn't being a team player. I was trying to make our unit look bad.

In other words it was an interesting day.

I know you like the work you do, Cat, but can't you do it for someone else?

Yesterday morning I was in the lobby at my workplace when the Big Boss came in and said in his enigmatically snarky manner, "What is a cripple doing out here in the lobby?" (That's the kind of humor he has). I said I was waiting for my son to come pick me up and take me to the orthopedist, and asked him if he'd ever broken anything himself.

Come to find out, he had: both legs, both shoulders, most of his fingers and some ribs. The shoulders were from skiing--I didn't get a chance to find out what the rest of the breaks were from. It got me thinking, that here was the reason he had to continue to maintain this business, despite the fact that he came from money and could have sold the business for big bucks (not to mention he has 6 daughter who have no interest in publishing). He has to maintain a business big enough where he has enough employees he can get group insurance--otherwise, he'd just have to keep paying OOP on his accidents until the money was all gone.

I know you're a good guy and care a lot about your patients, but you must have the patience of Job to deal with those assholes on a regular basis. That really takes balls to ask a subordinate employee to spend their money to make the boss look good...but why am I not surprised by this?

Hang tough, cat. You da man! :D

Stealing from another thread, your boss is an ignoranus (stupid asshole).

Good luxk and I'll take Tom's comment a step further and say you have the patience of a Saint.
