Breathing hard, Edmund held Fira close as he relaxed. Absently, his hands stroked her hair and back as he listened to the sounds of the ship, searching for anything out of place. He found nothing out of place, however, and continued to relax, slowly drifting into a half-sleep, lulled by the familiar motion of the waves and the feel of Fira's body.
He awoke, startled for a minute as he tried to place what had woken him. 'Different sounds,' he realized. He'd fallen out of Fira while asleep, but she lay close to him, one arm and leg draped across him. He gently disengaged himself and stood up, pulling on clothing in the darkness before walking forward.
<Ah, you're awake. Good. Bosaso,> the Captain said with a gesture.
Even in the darkness Edmund could tell the harbor was busy. Lanterns hung from ships and docks sparkled on the water like so many stars in the sky and there was a quiet industry audible above the muted sounds of the ocean.
Edmund went back to the covered area and woke Fira, covering her in a makeshift robe of scrap sail-cloth. The Captain led them by torchlight through the dark streets, away from the harbor, until the reached a house that looked like any of the others packed together along the narrow streets.
A happy reunion became tearful as the Captain apparently related the events of the voyage to the gathered family members. One woman fled the room, weeping.
<My brother's wife,> the Captain explained a little sadly. <But come, we have a room for you.>
And they did. Children were chivvied out of bed and into another room to share with younger siblings and fresh sheets were put into place. Soon their hosts left them to themselves and Edmund stripped off his clothing and settled himself back into the bed.
"A few hours 'til daybreak, anyway," he said. "Might as well take what sleep we can get."
